Hi

I am trying to edit the main menu / title screen of Red Alert 1. I know this forum is for RA2 but I couldn't find any active modding community for RA1 so plz bear with me. I am quite new to the modding scene and all that I have figured out till now is that I need to use XCC utilities to edit the .mix files.

I figure that I will need to find the file that stores the image of the main menu and edit it to change the look of the main menu. (please tell me if this is a wrong approach)

I found the main menu in a file called title.cps within one of the .mix files. I am able to convert it to .pcx and edit it but what I can't figure out is how to put the edited .pcx back into the .mix file. How do I do it?

I'm not really familiar with RA1, but I would assume it reacts pretty much the same as TS/RA2/YR. You maybe able to just place it in the RA1 directory folder. If that dosent work you'll need XCC MixEditor to place it in a mix file.

You simply need to replace the title.pcx and IIRC it needs to be left in the directory (I couldnt get it to work elsewhere).

cranium
can you briefly explain how you would do this for RA2?
I have XCC mix editor and I am able to extract files from inside a .mix file but I can't figure out how to put it back into the .mix.

omegabolt
you mean I should leave the .pcx outside the .mix file in the game directory?

I checked from the mods I have for redalert, and yeah, just put the file "Title.pcx" in the game folder,no need to put it back in a mix file.

Um, I dont think it's possible to drag and drop something into a .mix file. Cause if there is a way I'd sure like to know.

Anyway, the way to do it is use XCC MixEditor to open the .mix file and insert what you need from there.

Just run xcc mixeditor, choose open,a dialog box appears asking for the location of the .mix file. When you locate it just double click it and it opens. Next choose insert, again a dialog box appears for the location of the object you want to insert. When you locate it, again double click it. Then choose save and then close.

You can just drag & drop files into a mix using XCC Mixer. XCC Mix Editor was made redundant by this feature many years ago & is no longer supported.

I actually still use the XCC Mix Editor... I never liked the Mixer's drag n drop.

XCC Mixers drag and drop is sketchy, same as its auto compact function.
