PPM 10th Anniversary Contest
Subject description: Do something awesome in 5 days and grab some prizes!
Hey everyone! It's been a while since I haven't posted any news. I used to complain that I was busy with my university during my graduation course.... but the truth is that I had no clue whatsover about what was really being damn busy. Nowadays I'm doing a master course and freelancing in a company near my home, which is being very useful to pay the bills of this site... the only problem is time. I'm very tired and overloaded and I had to drop several activities (which includes posting news here) to be able to deal with my current situation.
And that's a very bad moment to not give PPM the attention it deserves. PPM will become 10 years old in 5 days (september 30th) and... I have no surprise or new feature whatsover... anything in my hands to pay any kind of tribute to PPM's 10th anniversary.
However, that doesn't mean that we have to ruin this moment. So, I need some help here. And if you have some free time and an interesting idea in mind (or several ideas), you can make this moment become brillant and even be rewarded (although I don't have much to offer). For this reason, we are starting the PPM 10th Anniversary Contest.
Objective: Pay a tribute to PPM's 10th anniversary with any kind of content that will be interesting to the users. The person who provides the most valuable contribution will be rewarded with prizes.

Warning 2: The maximum score for each type of submission may change, in order to prevent abuses, if necessary and the this post will be updated accordingly.
In order to confirm your submission, post a link to it in a reply.

Sounds good, I would only care for the custom rank and nothing more Too bad it's not the best possible time for me, I have an exam in wednesday and must still study for it. _________________

So... You want a mod release, or a C&C game hacked in 5 days? Good luck finding anyone crazy enough to do it in that short period. The best thing I can do is post some news updates.
Sorry to say Banshee, but this is a really short timespan to do something, especially the major stuff. QUICK_EDIT

Err... you've missed the point, Dutchy. People can send as many submissions as they wish. So, there is a good chance that the winner may not need to post a new mod release or a major hack. Of course these items are worth more points than others. QUICK_EDIT
Seems like Hyper will have good chances to win this contest. He just has to release Hyperpatch with the current implemented features, even if these aren't all of those he wanted to add for the first public release.

Releasing a mod or a hack demands a lot of effort and work and it is very hard to release in such short timespan. So, the possibility of somebody winning this contest with a mod or a game hack is not as high as you guys are expecting. At this exact moment, DaFool is the one who is winning this contest with a tutorial for Generals that he has recently posted. And anyone has chances to beat it. QUICK_EDIT

What about updates to existing mods? Does that kind of stuff count, too? QUICK_EDIT
Mother Trucker! Even though I have way more than enough to assemble and have a fully functional Mod release, there's no way possible for me to put it together in 3 days. Hell, I havent even had any time to get my forum together let alone trying to tackle this impossible task. and besides I have no plans for a mod prerelease until Ares 0.2 becomes available anyway.
I'll see what else I can come up with in the meantime but aint promising anything. QUICK_EDIT

It's certainly a nice tool, but it's not really an editing tool nor an absolute must-have like XCC Mixer, SHP Builder or VXLSE, so I doubt it will get the full 50 points.
...if i wasn't lazy and didn't get bored so easily anymore...then i would so finish up the MANY WIPs i have and try to get a small 6 mission release of TS:CO....but laziness and lack of desire to work on those things right now prevails and wins the fight over this. despite a custom rank being in the rewards... _________________ Kalistia Crestland (2)

Allright. In the nick of time, but I'm still entering.
I present to you folks... as "Hack to increase moddable options for any C&C game"... Command & Conquer '95 patch 1.06c
Features it has in that aspect:
- Makes the game's music list ini-based, meaning anyone can edit it, add more themes, or just downright replace it. In future versions I expect to expand this concept to a full ini-based modding system, for ALL game data.
- Adds a command-line based modding system, with an ini file controlling what extra mixfiles should be loaded for the mod. This modding system includes an ini file with the ability to override select items in the strings file, without needing to include a complete strings file replacement.
There's also tons of other extras, like custom house colours and radar logos in missions, modifying capturability for specific building types in missions, the ability to put entire campaigns in the Covert Ops' "New Missions" list as one single item, the expansion of said list from 79 to 979 items per side, the expansion of the multiplayer maps list from 99 to 255 maps, and a ton more stuff. For more info, see the development thread.
At this moment, I haven't finished the German and French readme files yet, or even the HTML version of the English readme. For now, the site offers the readme as RTF, just like the readme in the installation.
Oh, and I'm not entirely sure if this counts as second contribution, but I am also releasing an update of my old Star Wars mod, with an added unit (the probe droid), and adapted to use the modding system built into C&C95 v1.06c
Note that, using the brand new modding options of 1.06b, this mod replaces the entire C&C playlist with its own playlist full of Star Wars themed music.
Since this mod release was made to be somewhat of a showcase of the current 1.06c modding possibilities, I made sure all mixfiles were created with XCC Editor, meaning XCC can show all files inside it. Feel free to look around in 'em _________________ QUICK_EDIT

PPM 10th Anniversary Contest Submission
Here is my Submission for the Contest in the Categorys:
PPM Hosted mod release
Maps for Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2, Red Alert 1, Tiberian Dawn or Fallout 3
Any other SHP file
Tutorial for Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 and any other C&C game
The Problem is i cant host my Mod here because the Size of the uploaded files is limited to 8mb -.-
If you allow me to upload my Mod here then i will do that...
I thought about uploading the GAISB mod here, but thta ain't gonna fit, so upload to another site with a link to it or
btw, it may sound stupid but how do i make a forum for the Gaisb mod, it's a generals mod. I don't really see a "add forum" button anywhere.
GAISB is a realism mod that add units, changes balance and will give you a new Generals experience, currently in alpha stage, as in about 10%-30% still needs to be done.
things to know:
-medium tanks one shot kill each other.
-defences a lot stronger.
-counters aren't always as good.
-GLA needs severe work.
-scripts folder needs to be renamed/deleted before gaisb will properly function.
-ai needs a real lot of work, except brutal gla. QUICK_EDIT

@Nyerguds: You've gained one additional point . Congrats!
And an important warning for many people here:

Only PPM hosted mods counts points in this contest. However, nothing prevents you getting hosted today... and if your mod isn't hosted, it will still receive a big news in the site. QUICK_EDIT

Yeah, I figured as much
C&C2SW hasn't really been hosted anywhere, after PlanetC&C was forced to shut down its site hosting. But I don't think the mod has enough activity or updates to justify giving it its own forum and stuff.
Mind you, it would be nice to have its website online again, with all the unit pictures and descriptions and stuff. _________________ Last edited by Nyerguds on Thu Sep 30, 2010 1:23 pm; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT
Well my GAISB also hasn't been hosted anywhere, but I can't see to find the button to get it hosted here, otherwise I'd have done so a few days ago.
But as Nyerguds sayd for his mod is similar to mine, I'll not be updating weekly, more like monthly
Continueing search for getting GAISB hosted on ppm...
Edit: I think I've looked enough, maybe in a few weeks I'll try and get GAISB it's own ppm page, but for now just see it as a little treat for the people on ppm in honor of it's 10 birthday. I remember coming here for the first time, so different from everything else, but I must say that of all sites where i come ppm is my favorite. QUICK_EDIT
