question about hacking the exe (not how to do it)
I'm starting to learn assembly because i want to hack the exe.
My question is that if i will hack the exe, it will work on any processor/OS it worked on it before the exe hack? QUICK_EDIT
Do existing exe hacks only work on a single processor/os?
No but i doubt it because i saw these in an assembly book :
Code:
Assembly language is not portable. This is an undeniable fact. An 80x86 assembly language program written for an IBM PC will not run on an Apple Macintosh. Indeed, assembly language programs
written for the Apple Macintosh will not run on an Amiga, even though they share the same 680x0 microprocessor.
If you need to run your program on different machines, you’ll have to think long and hard
about using assembly language.
What the ztype makes you think hacking a WINDOWS executable will work on the MAC OS? _________________ KGR | AT

It depends on the hack.
Some hacks on Tiberian Sun .exe made it not able to launch from a Windows 95 under a virtual pc (yeah,I tried crazy things in the past),where the original could,so yeah, hacking the .exe can break its compatibility with OS that would have worked using the original exe. QUICK_EDIT

See, that's rather outdated information... note how Amiga is still listed in there. Actually, these days Macintosh computers have switched to Intel chipsets which is what Linux/Windows versions typically require. Plus, if I'm not mistaken, OSX had a Unix core underneath. _________________
