Well, it took me a wile to get here...here I am.

a lot of old fan sites are dying out, its time to move on to something better. Survival of the fittest, or ahem, witch ever site has the most activity. Anyway..Do You guys plan on doing mods on the half-life series?

Talking of all these sites dying out, I have a solution that would fix everything. Wink

so why did you post in this thread?

I'm sort of interested in modding HL1, but I don't know how to do it and what I've heard makes it sound more complicated then modding C&C games.

is Half-Life a first person shoot 'em up game? I don't play it but I have an idea for it that has been going around for quite a while that no one knows how to do, Stargate SG-1

Yeah it sounds cool, the reason I brought up Half-Life 2 is because, you guys would probably have a good shot at modding for it. I thought about it for a wile, since it ships sept. 30th you could have plenty of time to get the tools needed. If you guys can come up with a good HL2 mod early from the release date, i'm positive that you could get tons of activity for your site...Think about the guys who made Half-Life: Counterstrike and Day of Defeat, the creators of these mods-of-halflife are very cool, and now the mods are selling in stores.

But.. its just a thought, maybe some experianced modders, Like you guys would have a good chance of making a hit mod for HL2. Maybe moving up to HL2 is not such a bad idea.

I know its different from TS-modding...you know RTS games inside and out, but how about shooters? it shouldn't be to hard to learn...

We have no structure to add support to HL2... we can even try, but it will happen the same that happened to Warcraft 3... Tapek and I were pratically the only posters in the war3 forums. Generals came from an oportunity (expansion of the game being shiped in Brazil some days before than in other places). An oportunity that seems to be working halfly, but I'm sure that some days after the game release, people will stop visiting us. I've tried to start a generals modding support... but so far, I'm not seeing activity in this... (another warcraft 3 Sad)

Origin has Generals and HL2 support, so why do we need it here as well?

I am not saying you should remove the Generals forum.

Banshee please split this thread, because the last few posts have nothing to do with Arm-Ent.

Hmmm, thats not quite how I would picture it. If it wouldn't quite work out because of loss of activity, or because people show little or no intrest in a HL2 mod....well thats the thing, no activity or intrest shouldn't even be a problem, no matter what your working on...get a few beta testers for the mod, and tell all of your affiliated sites to post news about the release of Mod-X, if your only planing to create a mod and expect activity immeadiatly, you can do the same as above^^^....

Utilites. (for graphics, coding, and anything else.)

Graphics people.

Coding people.

Leader.

Site manager. (you should have a significant start before you bother working on a web site for the mod.)

First of all, I must finish Final Dawn... and also I wouldnt work in a HL mod, simply because I dont like shooter games.... I mean, some are really cool, but I prefer much more the RTS games. It's a personal preference. Also, the purpouse of PPM is not to compete with anyone, Kravitz. I know that the contents conflicts with some of origin sites, mainly C&C Origin and Origin Modding and also, the fact we host projects also conflicts with Project Link and Origin Forums. That's why we are considered hosted site. We are not considered project, neither a part of Origin Network, although we have projects and forums of some of the projects hosted by Origin like Red Generals and Rampage. Our purpouse is to mod. PPM's objective is modding, but the main objective is still to finish Final Dawn.

But, are you (the PPM Staff) interrested in building a HL2 mod? IF:
you had Utilites, Graphics people, Coders, Site managers, and most inportant of all, a Leader?

Origin is not my host. PPM is currently hosted by Origin.

I didn't say anything about competing.

It'd be interesting to make a HL2 mod, and there'd certainly be no shortage of help if we just posted something on the PHL forums, but, unfortunately, the others in PPM probably don't want to.

Also, HL isn't a shoot 'em up. A shoot 'em up is something like Duke Nukem, where all you do is grab a gun the size of south africa and start blowing shit up.

Oh, yea, and, we HAVE coding people. HL2 and HL are just based on C++. Also, the physics and graphics engine does a lot of work on its own. In other FPS games, if you wanted a sequence where someone kicks a door in, you'd have to make a big long complicated script and a lot of map work. In HL2, the AI will do that automatically, then, when the door starts to swing back from the force of it hitting the wall, they'll hide behind it as you return fire. THEN they'll run away from the door and hurl a grenade through, then throw a barrel through a window and jump through to surprise you #Tongue

Another interesting game to Mod would be Deus Ex, because it has the advantage of being mainly story-based. You'd just spend a few weeks making new weapon and item models, and the rest of the time would just be doing story, which nearly anyone can do.
