Well it's Fall once again, and I think it's time for another PPM contest. I'm not sure what kind of contest would generate the most interest, So I purpose we have a little survey/poll to determine what kind of contest will get the most interest/participation out of us.
What would be the most likely contest that you would like to see and/or get involved with?

I want another awesome coding contest, using only rulesmd.ini/aimd.ini. A coding contest could also be a good way to help with spreading the popularity of Ares.

I'm all for another voxel contest, as long as there is some different rules. I'd like to see a "make a concept RA2/YR vehicle" voxel comp or something.

And of course, there's always plenty of fun involved with infantry contest and building contests.

Map making contest for TS/FS. I miss OMCs, but I'm open for a singleplayer map comp as well.

Some mapping or coding contest for TS/FS or for some of its mods.

So far it looks like the majority is interested in some sort of mapping contest. I'm kinda leaning towards that myself because I missed out on the last one.
But I kinda like the ini editing one like M7 as well.

well...i was thinking, once i come across more time to use, to hold a mapping competition that would require users to make a map which has a minimap that recreates another image. so using the image importer thing as an outline could come in handy.
(or in other words a contest which requires maps like that TI map Midnight Fury which are based on some picture but would also require details and allow decent gameplay while trying to keep it as close to the picture as you can.)

but meh, i don't have the time to organize one right now nor to really make anything, though judging i should be able to do if a map competition is held.

I'd personally like to see a coding contest as i find those interesting although i don't see it as being as useful as a graphic or map for most.

RA2 gets nowhere near as much love as RA2. Something RA2 oriented, please.

I'd like to see a contest with a bit more challenge:
"Voxel-based Buildings/SHPs"

A building SHP contest is fine too.

added a poll up top. We'll let this run for a few days and see what we come up with.
We're going to need some moderators and judges, so for those of you who do not wish to participate and who are knowledgable of the aspects of the game, speak up.

I'd love to participate in a mapping contest. Either for Red Alert 2 or Generals. Tiberian Sun, not as much.

Red Alert 2 needs a contest. Tiberian Sun gets a lot more attention. A TS contest would really be redundant when we have a rather sparse RA2 map AND mod section.

What about a grand marathon to honour the recent anniversary? Featuring mapping, voxeling, coding, and SHP making. The points a contestat receives of these are summed together to get the final amount of points, which determines the winner. A contestant doesn't have to participate in more than one aspect, but he/she will receive zero points of the rest.

Hmm, maybe even split this between RA2 and TS? Extra points for a RA or TD map #Tongue

hmmm, that sounds interesting Crim, but I dont think there are a whole lot of people who have experience in all 4 of these. Which imo would make people lose interest. And besides that would be a long comp as people would need extensive amount of time to do it.

Making a C&C1 map on XCC Editor or a RA map in RAED is a cakewalk, especially if they are multiplayer maps #Tongue

we need more votes guys. even if your not going to be involved in the actual contest, your vote still matters. All assets get released to the community and is why your votes matter. So if you'd like to see new buildings vote for the .shp contest, voxels, vote for the voxel contest, ect.

I vote Crimsonums marathon idea. Even if you can't do all four you can still enter and those that can might just do it badly so... #Tongue

I'd like to see a single player mapping contest or a shp building contest. Mainly since there never seems to be enough of those in the community.

I'm o.k. with the marathon contest too, it's just that the time thats gonna be needed to complete all tasks is going to be imense. It already takes a good while to "properly" make a good usable .shp building. as does making a good map. Though voxels can be difficult depending on what your making, and coding can be time consuming too "depending on ones imagination" I do believe they are far easier to do than the latter 2.

This is just an idea, and dont think it has been done yet. But what about a 2 person team marathon contest? I think this would draw more attention and participation with the community. And could be quite fun too!

Not in favour of the marathon, because of the workload.

I think if the deadline for the marathon was 6 months later, it would be perfectly fine.

The two man team idea is pretty nifty though, not gonna lie.

A two-person team marathon seems like a pretty cool idea, though it could lead to unnecessary drama.

...entirely unlike any of the previous contests.

I dont know, I think any type of marathon contest would become overwhelming and make people drop out with such a long period of time needed for such a contest. Besides most of us already have projects going on and wasting that much time on that type contest instead of are own projects would be just a waste.
So I think we should just stick with the original plan here. or atleast close too it. If the .shp and voxel votes end up pretty close which I think they will. We could do a 2 man .shp/voxel comp. That wouldnt be to bad, as it shouldnt be hard to do it with 2 people working together.

We will let the poll go until tomorrow night, and then see what happens, Sound good?
