Building SHP request
Subject description: A challenging one I guess
Since our team doesn't have a building artist, I'm posting this request here. I'm looking for someone who'd be able to create SHP of Warsaw Palace of Culture and Science. I'd love to create a campaign mission in our capital city for Mental Omega and such eye-candy would definitely be a nice surprise for Polish players.
Thats a massive project right there Very doable, but would require it to be broken down into several parts, kinda like the Pentegon and Stadium. Not to mention a huge amount of time would also be needed.
I thought MO had a .shp artist? _________________

I think it could be done like Mental Omega Device.. via animation. Of course, the high tower part. It's true that the lower part would need to be another building.
We don't have a .shp artist. _________________ mentalomega.com QUICK_EDIT

Have you asked MadHQ? He's the best shper in the community I've seen yet. _________________ Ponies are not awesome. Kill all bronies with fire. QUICK_EDIT
I just wish google had some better pictures than what I found. Details are hard to come by, anyone in the area that can take some nice photos? Photos so detailed, someone would think you're planning a heist? _________________ "Don't beg for things; Do it yourself or you'll never get anything." QUICK_EDIT
Too bad I don't have any contact info on my relatives in Poland, I'd ask them. _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder
Well I love a challenge, and boy do I know how to pick em. I'm at a loss as to the back of the outer buildings, and I haven't been able to get a great pic of the dome building, but otherwise, I think this will turn out alright. Albeit the texture work...
Anyway, making progress (just so you know this thread wasn't forgotten )
Oh and yes, the stairs are modeled out, just too many to see.
Remember that the maximum height of a building is, IIRC 30
@ Yuri Legends:
It's a WIP, he is just showing that he is working on it, and I dont think this is the finished product, so I think he will add details _________________ QUICK_EDIT
What? I don't get that, you can 'see' it when the 'structure' in front of it is destroyed, something like the Great Pyramid, only there the part you can't see is 'destroyed' when you destroy the visible parts, it is actually a structure which looks exactly like the debris from the real Pyramid parts _________________ QUICK_EDIT
Well as far as details go, I think they're going to need to be texture magic. And by texture magic, I mean it will be a miracle if it looks good. Because at the moment with just this section (made of 5 pieces foundation-wise 2- 4x3 and 3- 2x2, as it is {to be worked out later}), its made of over 100,000 polys, making for a hard time on my already OC'd CPU (about 10 fps if I move anything). As far as the height goes, the lower buildings should be fine. The central building and tower will have to be an animation and I plan on it being animated anyways for the clock and possibly lights (why not have lights on a dark map?)
It's going to be a big chunk of the map, that's all I can say. Especially if I decide to make the Bibs (parking lot, greenery around it) for it.
Edit: Almost forgot, can anyone do the statues if I finish this? I can only make stick people, I swear.

Surely you didn't need to model all those baroque crenellations though, 4StarGeneral? What do I know, I'm not a 3Der
Epic work, how ever you slice it. QUICK_EDIT
No, you're right about the crenelations, I just took the easy, poly consuming way out. I've now removed them to make way for a bump & opacity mapped line of what is now just a bland rectangle.
Hardest mapping is definitely the centerpiece of middle building you see. Ridiculous details >_> _________________ "Don't beg for things; Do it yourself or you'll never get anything." QUICK_EDIT

building
Did you use 3d max to make this? Is it made in one piece or multi pieces like the stadiums or pentagon? What are the dimensions you used for them, not the game dimensions, but model dimensions. From what I have seen of some pics I'm thinking 600 feet by 325 by 85 (your pic). That would be double for mirror image and probably 250 by 200 for the center piece and unsure of the outer circular. And some info I found, to the top 754 feet.
I used the parking spaces as a rough estimate for the length and width of the outer buildings, the inner space is a combined width of both buildings.
I was planning on making the building in 8 pieces, 4 outer buildings, 2 inside buildings, the tower and the circular building. _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder
Oi! Progress is slowing down thanks to work/boredom , Having a little problem with the alpha maps sadly. :/ Can't seem to figure out which direction is which and how exactly I'm "supposed" to map it, if anyone with opacity mapping knowledge could help me out, I'd appreciate it, PM or whatever.
(sorry about the uncompressed png's Banshee )
EDIT: Gahhh... Ignore the columns in the center building, I see they're off since I moved em.

As far as details go, why do something if you're not going to do it right?
And yeah its big, but even to fit with the scale of the rest of YR buildings, its gonna have to be like 8+ buildings. Also, how big is it in real life? Just sayin' _________________ "Don't beg for things; Do it yourself or you'll never get anything." QUICK_EDIT
Isn't Pentagon bigger than the Palace? But then, when you compare Pentagon with other structures you could say it's undersized anyway so it's a bad way to compare ingame sizes. And who cares about RA2 scales.. _________________ mentalomega.com QUICK_EDIT
Well when its finished scale can be worked out, its the easiest part of all anyway. And yeah, the Pentagon in RA2 is like 1/3 scale. Also, for now I decided that for the distance (in fact, the detail level of most engines), the paper-thin crenelations are hardly noticable and so can stay paper-thin Just working out the many sat dishes, lights, etc. on the tower now. _________________ "Don't beg for things; Do it yourself or you'll never get anything." Well I think I've lost it again, can't seem to get the building in to get a screenshot even just trying to replace the conyard .
Also, work on this is very slow thanks to my bad memory relating to my skill, lol.

It's not hard... the UNdamaged pieces with sides to pieces connected to the front simply end in a damaged side. This damaged side is then covered by the next piece put in front of it, making the whole look undamaged. If the front piece is destroyed, the damaged sides 'under' it are revealed. _________________ QUICK_EDIT

sweet!! what did you make it in? _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder
Model part: It's pretty much finished, a few minor details like sat dishes and the clock, but yeah.
Textures part: Oh boy. Just trying to UV unwrap this thing is... Well I wish I thought of it while I modeled it. Cuts and slices make it a nightmare. And without any good close pics, its completely photoshop, so yeah, gonna take awhile.
But don't worry, I'd just give it out if I wasn't able to finish it, no sense letting it go to waste, heh. Anyway, late to work! _________________ "Don't beg for things; Do it yourself or you'll never get anything." QUICK_EDIT
try doing this. copy the piece so you have 2 buildings....make the 2nd unique and chop away pieces. then move them back into position. do this as many times as you need to _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder
And now I complain about not having 'proper' materials.
Also, tried to make a buildup for this thing... I crash every time I try to process what whould be a 'single building' in YR, so I'm looking into that, might need to rebuild it from scratch, haha.
NOTE: Most of the building has yet to be UVW Unwrapped cause... @_@
