I'm pretty sure the British are just as cunty with English as the Chinese, and are rather pompus of that fact. Colour? Color? Hell, America does the same thing. Spanglish? I don't mind this, I mean I generally feel pretty sad that English has become an "international language". We don't learn a second language in this country so why should others learn English? Seems pretty damn unfair to me. If the Chinese want to preserve their "Chineseness" then they should do something about it... nations have been losing their nationality for a while now which I suppose is a good thing but then I don't want to end up speaking American either. Britain (and I expect other countries) have been changing considerably over the last 60 years - we're all fat, lazy, dishonourable, law-suit mongering, entertainment feasting slobs. I'd hate to see every nation on Earth be reduced to the same thing.
I mean it's like adverts with American accents. I love seeing a Microsoft advert redubbed with an English accent, feels like they actually care enough to alter it for this country, like they would for another language speaking nation. I think companies are starting to realise that as well.
It's also like US kids TV shows... they should definately be dubbed English, I mean there is enough US influence for kids besides them having it hammered in with kids TV.
Seems like a pretty anti-American post but that's not the point. America can be American by all means, in fact I encourage it, just don't force it all over the world. China should be allowed to be China, and likewise every other country. Although I think the UK should mingle with Europe more.
Also a side thought, I think since English has been sacrified the English should adopt another language as their own. We should all learn Welsh or something more Celtic. QUICK_EDIT

There is never enough US influence for the world, not for America. It moves the same way Christianity did/does. And as you think the UK should mingle with Europe more, every country should know their neighbors better, especially the US (I say especially, probably because I live there of course).
China has more than enough of its own influence. To be complaining about it the way it is, is a bit much. Everyone has words from other languages in their own language. Its not like Chinese is going to go all gung-ho, avant-garde (it thinks it is cutting edge) American.

This doesn't seem like anything to do with learning other languages, rather the use of that in advertising and other highly influential media which does genuinely corrupt the mind. And yes it is good, we should bother as well but since we don't really "need to" I guess it isn't seen as important. Lazy.

Since we don't live there I can't imagine we'd fully understand. China is one of the oldest civilisations on the planet, it definately has something to defend.

Here's the thing about Spanglish and Ebonics. The American GOVERNMENT does not enforce any language on the populace, English or otherwise. The People's Republic of China is forcing it onto its citizens, which is significantly different from the US government's stance.
It's an issue of freedom. No government has the right to tell you what to do. No government can control you unless you let them. Why hasn't the Chinese populace revolted? The general populace doesn't have access to guns and the media is so tightly controlled that you couldn't fart on TV unless they said it was okay.
