Patrol Boat [RA2]
Subject description: I need some suggestions...
I've been working on a small patrol boat for the past few days. The hull shape is that of the Scorpion, but the end result is to produce a patrol boat for the Allies.
However, I'm not happy with the general structure I have come up with so far... I can't figure out how exactly I will tackle putting the intended main weapon on this thing: a simple machine gun. I can't decide if it should go on the bow, or on top of the pilothouse.
Also, it ended up looking far too much like the tugboat, so I want to get rid of the smokestack...
I realize that I'm being every indecisive right now

Alright, I moved the pilot house back a bit. Then I took a cue from the Allied Destroyer and painted it white. I also added a spot light into the gun, at the suggestion of a friend of mine.
It still doesn't feel right. Something is missing, and I can't figure out what...
perhaps? Alternately, could add some missile racks on the back. Would make it more of a multipurpose everything unit, can do everything an Aegis cruiser and a destroyer can, but MASSIVELY sucks at anything other than killing infantry or scouting.

No, Im not about to add any other weapons onto it. Its job is supposed to be taking down infantry, scouting, and providing light defense on the cheap.
However, I like your idea to put a mast on it. That's not a bad idea, Ill make a version with one.

I took an ingame shot of it, and it looks terrible, I am not happy with it.
The pilot house glass looks funny from certain angles, as do the mufflers on the back. And I cant even make out what the spotlight is supposed to be from a distance. The gun is practically invisible, and the mast looks terrible...
I'm going to fix a great deal of this one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Seems you already have a turret in your model,
on the top of the boat there.
Just cut the boat off (and leave only turret) in VXL
editor, and save the turret separately, as the turret only. and use the name like boattur.vxl

So I reworked the gun, and made it big enough to hopefully stand out better. I also removed the mast, and replaced the lighter glass colors with darker ones. And the spotlight was removed...
Rule of thumb, look at real vehicles, get an idea of what they stick on them, detail yours similarly. I'd recommend averaging out the features you see, like if you often see liferafts on your type of ship, then perhaps add those, etc.
But really, just keep adding detail incrementally, and maybe revisit it in the future with fresh eyes.
