Maybe i've missed something, but can someone explain me what's so awesome about a textured box? It doesn't even have a lot of detail, yet everyone seems to be impressed by it.

hah, you need to play portal. Its nothing like normal firsr-person shooters. Its more a puzzle like game... But really fun
And the companion cube is some kind of running gag. Still, to understand it, you need to play Poertal _________________

while i'll admit Portal was different and had some lol epic parts. I didn't really like it as a game that much. but it was still fun...and this is still an awesome Companion Cube crate.
