June 30th, 1908. A mysterious event happens in Russia, called the ‘Tunguska event’. A meteor roars trough the atmosphere, and explodes violently mid-air, destroying trees, breaking glass windows for miles away, and leaving an huge crater. Dust was spread into the atmosphere, which was visible for a few days at night, and made it possible for people to read their newspapers at night, without any need of artificial light sources. What wasn’t known back then, was that the dust contained an unknown mineral, which spread across the globe.

The mineral dust hit the soil everywhere where it could, and got lost in time. It was not until 29th of April 2034 when scientists discovered the minerals in a large excavation site near the original impact event, 126 years later. It was special because of the unique radiation signature, and also because it contained some elements that where unknown.

A few weeks after this discovery, strange things started to happen. The people who came into contact with the mineral for a long while began to change. Their personality changed. But because it wasn’t important, it was ignored. It did got quite serious when some of the people started random attacking persons. It got out of control when one of the leading scientists was killed by a colleague, which had been researching the minerals intensively.

The remaining scientists who didn’t lost their minds already gathered, and came to the conclusion it had something to do with the minerals. After that their where very strict safety measures: excavators and scientists who would come in contact with the mineral where forced to wear hazmat suits, and they had to shower every time after they had been in contact with the mineral. A large laboratory was constructed at the site to continue research. Not a single word about the incidents was spread outside the facility.

After several months, the scientists made some remarkable discoveries: it could create extremely durable alloys when combined with existing metals, and it was a great energy source. This energy could be used to supply power to vehicles and structures, but also used as a weapon. It worked rather similar to nuclear power, but without any residual radiation, and requiring much less for a similar output.

This discovery was the source of many problems. When the public knew what was going on, they started searching for the minerals themselves, and then to sell it with major profit to the research company, which was now known as M-Tec. They weren’t that strict on safety measures as the scientists where. In fact, most people used standard digging and excavating materials without any protection at all. This caused an explosive increase of illnesses and violent-related incidents around the world.

To help the people, the CEO of M-Tec ordered that laboratories must be erected around the globe. This reduced the time for people to sell the minerals, and the ill could be treated. This did not stop the violent-related incidents though. After several of these incidents, the scientists of M-Tec got their hands on a living ‘subject’. They experimented on him and came to the conclusion that it was indeed the mineral causing it.

Somehow the mineral was messing with the brains of the people, turning them into zombie-like creatures. They had no other aim then to kill and to feed. They’ve lost their ability to think logical. The governments around the world wanted to get rid of these infected, and they gave M-Tec the order to do something about it. It was their discovery after all.
With the money earned from their research and selling of the various end products, they began researching weaponry. They created a private army, and they named it ‘Legion’. This army was equipped with high technology weaponry, from which most of it was designed and developed by M-Tec itself. At first, it looked like M-Tec was succeeding at their task: the amount of infected-related incidents declined.

This changed soon after some incidents with Legion units killing civilians from who they thought where infected. The governments where not happy with this, and they stopped supporting research and buying products from M-Tec. In retaliation, M-Tec stopped curing the ill and helping civilians that where threatened by the mineral. This escalated into a large verbal conflict between governments and M-Tec. The public of France was fed up with this conflict and demanded action instead of words. And action came: France destroyed several research facilities near Paris, Lyon, Toulouse and Marseille, killing both scientists and the defending forces of Legion. This also caused all stacked minerals inside the facilities to spread into the surrounding areas.

The destruction of the facilities revealed something horribly: M-Tec was experimenting with both infected and ill people. Some had cybernetic implants and limbs, others were mutilated horrible. Things where not looking good for M-Tec. Around the world armies began making strategies to take out the facilities of M-Tec.

What then happened was a surprise to all: instead of attacking, all the armies where being attacked themselves. Legion had been mass-producing for the last few years, being funded, supplied and armed by M-Tec. Most of the armies fell after rather quick battles. They were no match for the highly advanced weaponry Legion had, which had been developed by M-Tec. After several months, the main force on the globe was Legion. Millions of civilians and survivors of defeated armies where conscripted into the army, and where send into battle with rebellions.
Everything went well for Legion and M-Tec: they had control over the globe, had installed puppet governments who were instructed to buy supplies and products from M-Tec, and kept doing research, both normal research as experimenting on victims of the mineral. This all went along for a couple of years, until a major research facility of M-Tec was destroyed in an attack by some rebels who named themselves ‘Revenant’. The Revenant where civilians, survivors of the Legion raids, and several other groups of people who wanted to take action against M-Tec and their Legion.

While Legion first thought they could handle this small rebellion with ease, they became more aware they were wrong after some battles where they had crushing defeats. It seemed that the Revenant where more organized then the average rebellion army. They had scavenged every weapon they could, and also seemed to have acquired nuclear weaponry, which was discovered when a large Legion base was destroyed by a nuclear weapon.

It is now 2037. this is where the story continues. Legion and M-Tec want to eradicate any resistance to keep control of the globe, while the Revenant want to rid the world of the dictatorship of M-Tec, and find a way to utilize the minerals in a good way.

Beside a few misspellings, lack of logic in certain areas, and overall lack of last-stand zombie stand off, it's an interesting story.
