I think when building your mod you have to use BuildModCiv.dat instead of BuildMod.dat

They don't appear in the list or are invisible?

I'm also trying to add a civilian object (my own tree model). I've put the art in the right places but Im not sure about what xml stuff to edit? I tried copying an existing tree and changing the model to my own but it doesn't seem to do the trick. Thanx for your help!

It's funny that I am also doing this recently. What you need to do is just:

1. Code it refering to the original XMLs inside the SDK.
2. Make a include of your new tree code in Mod.xml and compile the mod.
3. Add your mod to WorldBuilder config so the tree would be available in it. Just Google for detailed apporach.

It's so much like adding a common unit but even easier.
