I want to make a singleplayer map for Tiberian Sun but I'm wondering what would be the best size. I want it to be very large, but FinalSun warns me that anything with its width+height over 256 will cause problems. What do you guys think? Can I safely make one that is 200x200 or a bit less? What would be the best size?

Btw do you have a tutorial here or a link to one about how to make the AI build certain units and send them onto the playable part of the map in waves?

EDIT: I found some info here that suggests I shouldn't have any problems at 200x200. So I guess that question is answered: http://www.tiberiumweb.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1070&pid=10926&mode=threaded&start=#entry10926

Another question on my mind though is this. In FinalSun's Lighting window you can change the Normal "Ambient" and "Level". Changing Ambient seems to affect the lighting but changing Level seems to do nothing. What does "Level" do?

Level affects how much the light changes between height levels. For example, with a high level value terrain on top of cliffs will be much brighter than terrain below cliffs.

It doesn't really matter about the map size. FinalSun and FinalAlert's engines are pretty alike with maps so I'll say this. For example, MadHQ's winning map Farmland for YR has a map size of 399x100 which is nothing I'd ever see someone do.

No problems but take a look at the FinalAlert minimap. View the topic in the RA2 map archive for more info.

I know I can make maps 215 by 200 with FA2. you make a 200 by 200 and then save it. Open it notepad and look for theater=(what ever you made it) and can change one of th 200 to 215. I prefer big maps vs small. All my maps are 215 by 200 and have 5 or 6 start points. It is big enough to have them without crowding. Some will say thats too big, but if you make a map 100 by 100 and have 8 start points even the crappiest AI will look tough. IMO bigger is better. I am not going to sneeze and hit another players base that easy. If you use a 200 by 200 map then don't make 1 objective give 3 or 4. Don't make it so easy.

As for Pepsi'e comment VK made one years ago 400 by 100
