Shock Trooper [WIP]
Subject description: GET YOUR RA1 SHOCK TROOPER REMAKE HERE TODAY (Loud is capslock).
Hey all, I've been working on this unit here, If you look at my signature, you can see that I want someone to render it for me, actually, I also need someone to show me how to make shadows using Donutarnold's light template.
I converted this to .shp format through using the "make preview" option in 3dsmax (where it uses the view port setting to output), hence it has no AA or any fix in terms of light or pixels.
It uses the shock trooper sequence, however am planning to add deploying frames.
The prone setting for this unit is walking with both hands protecting the head and the body (inspired by a unit in another game), the fire prone however has been made as a test for the deployed setting, so I suggest that you make another sequence where it either has no crawling frames or it uses the normal fireup setting.
The death frames are a no no, I didn't care for the details of this since it will have an explosion over it (in my private mod atleast).
Make sure to turn off shadows if you want to use this incomplete version.
you may use this incomplete version credit free (who wouldn't replace it with the full one if they have used this?).

It does use the same same same same same same same same shock trooper sequence in the term being:

OK... I don't get you. Thanks, I know what is a sequence and I know how to set up one. I just think that if it stands still in the TT sequence's Die entries, then it really shouldn't use that sequence. 0,1,0 with one frame is what you need for that entry. Meh. Upadate
Ok, forget about helping out about anything, I spent some precious time on this, if I hadn't started this topic here in media hut, I would've posted this in the SHP fourm, feel free to move it there moderators .
The changes are still simple, AA and shadows this time, the animation hasn't changed, however if I had some "encouragement" then I would re-animate it (for good) and add the deploy anims.
In the pack are two copies, one even bigger than the ra2 infantry (which you can see in the shp preview), and one that fits the game (seen in the ingame preview).
Credit me if you use this.

I redownloaded your SHP. Shadow frames are not equal to shadows. Shadows are the black spot under the infantry which can be painted manually if needed, that's not a big deal.
I said death frames are missing. DEATH FRAMES. Get the difference.
Besides, both are missing, so yes, you are "ninja-d". Not to mention that that your "tesla explosion" isn't attached, neither.
And as I also said... DeathAnims aren't supported in TS.

LOL, I can't believe I uploaded the old version, oh and the Tesla explosion is simply a re sized shp found in ra2.mix, and this isn't for TS, and I don't care about me being so much of a numb head, tell me something I don't know.

Oh I can't believe I made such a stupid mistake!!, I used a palette where the first 16 colors where pink colored to prevent choosing them when converting to SHP format.
Forgive my rush, wont happen again for the next few seconds at least.
Double checked shadows and the same old death anims.
For your eyes only, the same old death frames are in pic, just so you'd see them.
No TS stuff, who said this is for TS anyways?.
No attached explosion you think?, well you'd be dumb to think I'd just give something I only re sized, anyone can open ra2.mix, find the Tesla reactor's removed explosion anim, extract it then re size it.

It's my way of doing it, except that my delay of the explosion is a few empty frames in the attached explosion (by attached explosion I mean not an attachment here in the topic, but rather the attached by code explosion, which I already said what it's made of).

Well IMO the model should be altered a bit first. As Orac said the legs are way too short and disproportioned. The unit design in general looks too much like a crap 1950s plastic alien, with it's tubby appearance, round head and two spikes/antenna.
Maybe you're doing this purely for practice but currently it's no better than the original so really... why use it?
Personally I'd go for either an RA1 style Shock Trooper or RA3 Tesla Trooper with some kind of mad power unit on the back with micro-Tesla Coils. QUICK_EDIT

The RA1 Shock Trooper approach would be the most versatile unit IMO. Considering that even 206UE's RA1 set misses that one out.
Not to mention, if it turns out nice, it will fit to any laser/electric/similar role.

Ra1 is free right?, so if someone posted that shp file here then I promise I'll go on ahead and make it even fit ra3, but I need to see how it looks like.
anyways, too bad I'd have to ditch this small restart, you can notice the thinner body, and the new things on the back, I'll ditch this untill am too bored and feeling like crapping around if someone uploads the ra1 shock trooper.

- Your choice, it's never clear from either cameo or original shp.
- A generic army uniform.
- If you want to be true the original it should be a lot simpler than that.
Well looking at the cameo here he clearly wears the standard RA1 uniform with some kind of backpack and shock stick. The stuff there it says about Tesla insulation etc is nonsense. He's uncrushable for gameplay reasons and he can be electrocuted by Tesla weapons. You could perhaps give him some kind of grounding equipment like wires that run around his suit to his boots. Just a suggestion but, err.. em, have you guys seen that huge backpack bug spray with the big rubber tube they use every summer to kill fly's and bugs?, maybe that with a "caution\electrical warning triangle mark" on the back, and the weapon should have some sort of a 4 sided fork, and it should be of a big proportion.

The RA1 thing is like a rifle, but with a small lightning rod instead of the barrel. Take a look the cameo.
To be honest, I always thought that soldier like this. It has an accu or a dynamo at his back and the stored electricity is fired out on a connected small lightning rod. QUICK_EDIT

Judging by the cameo he's not wearing any gloves. TBH I really can't imagine much close combat in the Red Alert universe. There are no superhuman warriors or space mutants. QUICK_EDIT

Am now using the concept, which suggests using a rod, with the gloves aid, he wont get electrified, and it gives him a reason of why he would be more affected by lightning storms.
Oh and about the waist level, I'll do it the concept style when he is walking and the waist level for when he is firing.

this might be a real test for the ppm 2012 free for all contest, I mean a test for the wip shot style judging (which am deeply against).

Now here is the deal, I dont want wooden animations for this guy as of my other infantry, so I'll update it bit by bit.
BTW non of you metioned how should I texture him.
Lets hear what people say of this walking anim below, note that I even can (and did) animate the hose, tell me what you think, Oh and the problem with antialiasing seen in the preview, forget it for now and forever, this is the result of the .gif maker am using.

Look at the body, does it seem he is leaning back a bit? Anti-alising issues seems to happen with the shadow. Also be the rod more metallic color. @the recoil matter: I think it's good, if anyone says no, I'll make another version, but both this and that will be in the same .shp file, thus you can use the sequence to determine which of them you want.

Updates..
I had a problem last night and couldn't finish this up, you are not to blame me, my cat died, the old hag was such a geezer that I couldn't get a clear mind.
the idle anims and the death anims, my vote for the death anim is 7.5/10 (from any original ra2 infantry), so be happy it turned out perfect.
the idle anims aren't that bad: 6.25/10 .
Note: no antialiasing on the pics below, sit down and relax until the full version's ready, oh and ignore all the green and white fuss.
