Id had doubts because of hollywood changing stuff and chosing always the wrong cast, screwing story bits up, and in the end their remakes always are mediocre at best....

but man was i wrong, the rise of the planet of the apes, i had really doubts about this film since i loved the charlton heston planet of the apes and conquest of the planet of the apes from the 70's.

But this is completely different, it really is believable and i loved every minute of it, i was rooting for cesar and it emotionally takes you on his journey. for a reboot of the francise, or simply for a film in the modern days that is remaking a lore, it was an outstanding, sensual and believable film, you all go and should watch it, it's really really good, and a long time since i was so excited about a film. i loved it and i will probably watch it again.

remakes

Err, No, no no no NO, go watch king Kong, I mean really, every time they remake king Kong they screw up the story, the actors get worse too!, I can swear that the old black & white (pictured back in 1933) is better than any other colored new version, but alas, that is only my opinion.

Quote:
Rise of the planet of the apes

This, this should get an oscar for taking everyone's money and time, really, if you want to know how a good movie is in every aspect, watch it once without sounds and once without video (and if you're crazy once without any of them), then watch it full and see why they should've used better voices, actors and lights.

trailer looks promissing!

but i dislike the tendecies in moviemaking to "just" reboot something excisting...

worst example is the next Spiderman...2002 the first real movie, 2007 the third part...and now in 2012 the reboot.

pretty much oversuckage #Tongue

Well IMO the trailer looks terribly dull and the CGI is bad. I remember reading something about it a while ago in Empire magazine, about how amazing the effects were and totally not seeing it myself. I think by setting it in the modern era they've removed the only really interesting aspect The Planet of the Apes story ever had for me. This is nothing to do with that it's a remake either, I'm just commenting on what I've seen so far and it doesn't make me want to see it, so I don't think I will (at least not for the foreseeable future).

And yes the original King Kong was best IMO. The great remakes are usually loosely based on the original material, like The Thing or The Fly.

looks terribly dull and the CGI is bad, it's not really bad, look at the WETA trailer in youtube and let them explain, plus, cesar is played by the guy who played gollum, and king kong, and thats it's in the modern day era hs nothing to do with any aspect of the story, every story has a beginning, but this one is a good example on how to stand up to the original so far. and how can you say it's dull? O_o it is, in fact the leading to a revolution we all know who know previous planet of the apes, even the name suggests it, so we all know what is to come, the premise is - if the film succeeds that for example the audience can buy the story and delve into the characters, and it did. as i said, et an opinion by watching it, not by judging the trailer.

It's not a reboot, it's a prequel. Have any of you here even seen the entire series? I sure as fuck have, and this takes place well before the events of the first goddamn movie.

They better not turn it into a series. Nothing will ever beat Charlton Heston in the first one. I don't give a shit about the CGI; fuck all that.

true, charlton heston movies = brilliant, but this one deserves a chance, , a 3 part trilogy is ok for me

edit: most likely more than 2 films...considering the end of this one.

But that doesn't make it look better. I understand the work they put into it, but I myself would avoid using CGI as much as possible as it rarely looks great and almost never looks great 5 years on.

blubb wrote:

Again, I know... so? Gollum was good, King Kong wasn't great IMO (the film was baaad).

I know what the story is but the only thing I really found interesting about The Planet of the Apes was the alternate future/history it set. I don't care how it happened, more about the after effect and the reversal of positions in the food chain.

I can't formulate an opinion on the whole film, but I can on the trailer and it doesn't make me want to see it in any way. That's just my opinion.

I think it's the dumbest fuckin' idea ever. I don't care if they've got some fancy brains, shoot them, shit. It's as stupid as no dinosaurs being killed in Jurassic Park, jesus christ.

One raptor died thanks to people, some retarded girl kicks it out a window doing gymnastics in an abandoned, decaying building. ztype.

doesn't happen, apes die, no gymnastics.
it was my personal opinion of the film and as someone who loves the original films.

Does it involve nukes?

You can't have a proper Planet of the Apes remake without that delicious Cold War nuke fear.

no you don'T see nukes, i won't spoil the end of the film but i didn't thought to myself i would by something like that would happen, but when i saw it, and how they made it, i thought, yes it works very well.
its only a start of the revolution, and a good one.

i myself enjoyed the movie even though i had a bad opinion before i saw it.

there are a lot of good, and i mean good and intellectual movies out there, worthwile to watch , bleach is, a concept just like hollywood does it's concept's, bleach is popcorn, it's basically the same one as in dragonball z, and thousants of different ones, it's popcorn to keep watchers interrested, 100 of episodes, and bleach has a LOT "filler" episodes wich blatantly show you that it is a simple concept, that doesn't mean it's bad, but it's marketing.

if you talk about good anime, you probably mean something along the lines of Macross - do you remember love (the first movie), or bubblegum crisis, or heck even the ghost in the shell movies (not necessarily stand alone complex, i didn't like them as much as the movies...).

and there are good movies out there with real actors, if we talk about films with depth take Darren Aronofsky movies for example, those are brilliant and are innovative, by talking apart from sequels, remakes and reboots.

Go watch a real series, instead of the generic Bleach/Naruto/One Piece that keep getting new episodes/fillers. Watch a series like Hellsing in example, and then come back here #Tongue

most japanese cartoons suck. sorry...but it´s just like that.
pokemón was "nice" because it had a message!

"you can fight each other as long as you have respect for your opponent. and after the fight you can calm down and actually be friends."

A good series is "Wolverine and the X-men" (sadly only one season was produced), but this is not japanese #Tongue

The problem with Bullshitworld is they have no imagination. Every possible movies concept has been done to death. There are so many cop style movies out there it is pathetic. How many love stories can you have? When these assholes start making remaking classics you know the business sucks. Lets see transformers....big F'in deal of your special effects. You went away from the way it was written and made it a piece of shit. Doesn't matter how many millions it brought it. IT SUCKED......jeff bridges in the remake of a classic John Wayne movie? are you f*kin kiddin me...The Duke is rolling over in his grave trying to get out to F this douche bag up. Turn on TMC (turner movie classics) and watch movies from the 30-50's. Every thing is sex & BS violence. the way the cars explode & the amount of guns used is over kill. now one can walk down the street and rip off 300 rounds and no one comes out. Every time I see a remake I wish hollywood would fall into the ocean. I got suckered into seeing transformers and thought it was a waste of my $8. Years ago you had 6 or 7 big named actors in a movie...now they are a bunch of jerk offs with no real talent. Cagney, The Duke, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Humphrey Bogart, Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda....real actors. Vin diksel, keau reeves, jean claude van dam are nothing more then punks.

Yeah, I like to rant.....I see way too many jerk offs running around and it needs to stop.....this world is going to hell in a handbasket and it is movie at warp speed.......BEAM ME UP SCOTTY, THIS PLACE F'IN SUCKS!!

wait wait wait wait....did you even see the 1985 transformers?
it has less of a story than michael bays TF had.
if you watch 1995, there is,and i swear, NO pause to battles , its 2 hours just exploding cubic robots!.....and there is NO single second wich has no rock soundtrack on it.
>_>

what is there that you can do wrong? XD

do a better job Wink

i liked michael bays TF, specially the action, only thing i don't like is "less robot, more human interaction" in these movies, wich should be other way around.

Hey now, TF was decent, TF2 sucked ass and TF3 is a pretty good improvement. Overall, I enjoyed these movies with exception of TF2's perverted moments (and The Twins are NOT racist mind you). I liked how TF3 went a bit animesque in the mech designs too.

Oh and I heard that there's gonna be live action remakes of Akira and Bubblegum Crisis. So far, I've only seen conceptual movie posters of BC and that Akira ain't gonna be like Akira unfortunately (Neo Manhattan instead of Neo Tokyo, non-Asian actors and Robert "Twilight" Pattison might potentially be casted as Tetsuo X_x). Hope whatever they're doing they won't blow it. That would be a major cheapshot to the nuts for classic anime fans everywhere, especially those who loved Akira since the film was regarded as the greatest anime ever made (and was among the best post-apocalyptic films, along side the likes of The Roadwarrior).
