Subject description: I've gotten as far as attempting to put my rules.ini changes into the game
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

I just recently was able to begin my attmept at modding Tiberian Sun, I have downloaded the XCC utillites and extracted the rules.ini file, I editd a few things, such as the damage that the Wolverine's guns do. I tried to create a mix file with the XCC mix editor and inserted the changed rules.ini into it. THis file never showed up however. Also in the past I've been notifiyed that there are files waiting to be burned to disc.
I've read a lot of tutorials on this subject and nothing ever mentioned this so I'm very hesitant to do so.
Thanks for any help you may be able to give.

It's not necessary to put your ini files into a mix file. Indeed it is much more comfortable to simply let them in the main TS directory, so you can easyly edit them and test the modification ingame.

Ok, I was making that a lot harder than it should've been. I was trying to change things in the wrong area.
Thanks again.

Well I just keep having trouble with this,
I've extracted the rules.ini again and changed it so that the Wolverine costs $300, then I placed it in the "Sun" folder which is inside the westwood folder. Then I brought up the game and the Wolverine still costs $500.
I've tried placing the new rules inside the westwood folder also but nothing seems to work.
Is there yet another massive step that I'm missing, because it seems to me like I'm doing what the Newbie guide says.

well lets try...

1. are you sure you have correct (your edited file) in the SUN folder, and not by accident have original (untouched) ?

2. are you testing on skirmish or single player maps ?
as some single player maps (if I remember correctly) have embedded rules so some over-write your modded settings

3. are you just loading the saved game when re-testing changed rules ?
- this does not work, saved/loaded games use settings which were used AT THE saved time, you'd have to restart mission for new settings to apply
