Was wondering, did anybody around try to make really precise models in Max?...like, not to model only after a blueprint, but also do it in cm/inches and whatnot. Or should I look towards AutoCAD?

3dsmax does have metric and imperial (customary) measurement settings. So I assume it is possible. AutoCAD has a bigger tool-set specific to architecture though, so it may be better in the long run. I don't have any hands on experience, but I have seen a few users going to town on it and it looked pretty intuitive coming from a 3dsmax background.

It is possible but can cause extrime headache\butthurt. While working on interiour design i prefered CAD for building initial scene and used MAX only for custom design elements and final rendering.

If you really want to construct things, then you can't get around AutoCAD or MicroStation. In 3dsmax are simply no functions like, create a line in an arc of 31° to the selected edge and with a length of 110 m/cm/inch (whatever measurement unit).

In 3dsmax you also have no chance when you want to get the volume of a model.
Things like, give me 3 points along a spline with the same distance to each other, are very hard to figure out in 3dsmax too, while AutoCAD has a simple inbuild functions for such things.

3dsmax has its strengths in animation, simple and fast modeling, presentation, design.

Indeed, AutoCAD is the only way to go if you plan to make a precise and accurate building. It has all the neccesary tools built in. I would also suggest getting the AutoCAD Revit Architecture.
I have AutoCAD2008, and from what I remember it dosent have a decent renderer. It's o.k. but nothing like the 3dsmax renderer. But you can save it as a .fbx file and import it into 3dsmax.
