RA2 is okay, but YR is mute(the intro video is not). My OS is Linux Mint 12rc and sound card driver is ALSA. Tested on both Wine 1.2 and 1.3 and got the same result. Opera also refuses to play any event sounds but Flash and WMP plugins work correctly. No idea yet. Any ideas?

I've had problems with flash in ubuntu before due to poor default pulse audio config. I can't remember how I fixed it though :/ If mint uses pulse audio I'd look into that.

If you haven't already, I'd read through what people have said over at WineDB. The lack of sound is apparently common and people have different solutions that may be worth trying.

My suggestion is to run the sound in WINE through OSS and then run the game with the command padsp at the beginning like so:
padsp wine ra2md.exe

It's been a long time since I've tried running games through WINE but I remember this was a solution that worked for weird sound issues once, although not for YR.

@Blade

Yes Linux Mint uses PulseAudio by default. A few days ago I replaced PulseAudio with oss, and YR sound works. However after I rebooted my computer, Linux failed to recognize my sound card so eventually I cannot receive any sound even from those applications that worked before then!!

@Clazzy

Thanks Clazzy. However I get confused with:

Quote:
What does not
The sound does not initially work, however this can be fixed by playing the introduction movie.

What does it mean by saying "does not initially work"? The intro movie always works but there is still no sound in game.

Test result:

Sound mode -> Software simulation:
Sound only worked in the first game. After I pressed Esc then return to the game it went mute again.

Sound mode -> Full acceleration:
Sound didn't work initially. After I randomly played a movie it worked. Then the same thing with the above happened. If I pressed Esc then only by going back to main menu again, picking a movie then terminating it, can I get the sound back again.

In the second game the game crashed without any prompt and except.txt left.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Opera event sounds still don't work.

I'll try to install oss for a second time.
