They've been blowing each other for decades before americans arrived. Do you think that they'll stop blowing each other just because americans left it? Of course, not.

The reasons behind these actions are beyond our knowledge. It's not a matter of being dumb, just an endless fight for power and ideologies.

Afghan civil war is a larger conflict than the Soviet invasion of the country. The Soviets were part of a brief point in the civil war. Our invasion of Afghanistan is a tiny dot on history for Afghanistan's violent history.

ah yeah. I did some reading on various articles. Seems they have been blowing each other up for quite some time now. Seems theres like 4 or so different cultures there, all vying for control of the country. The shiittes, or something like that, they seem to be/act like terrorists. Confused but to me it's still a WTF!
I mean, our Government consists of 3/4 seperate groups of people, but we dont blow each other up for power.

Sure the hell seems like I am. Crying or Very sad My Country's in turmoil as well. Millions of people still without jobs, Millions of people losing there houses, everything they worked for went down the drain over night. I lost my main job, now I work a crappy job, and getting laid off from that one next week. still a paycheck but Dosent cover all the bills. I have a house payment that starts in January, dont know how I'm gonna afford that unless I find another job which FYI, there arent any. So yeah, I'm living in poverty, I'm broke, and I dont go around blowing shit up

huh? The Civil War had nothing to do with power control, or blowing people up for spite.

There was a reason we spent years trying to train their forces and protect them from their neighbors. We knew they would go back to killing each other. Unfortunately, I've seen the videos of us trying to train them and it's just... sad... they just have no motivation to care about their country (who can blame them). We would have to be there for decades more for their security forces to even stand a chance and no one wants that. Everyone is tired of it. Untrainable rabble.

Yes, I have seen their fighting prowess. Quite bad. I've seen many videos where their security forces will wear sandals in combat. Why waste our time with them.

Honestly, let them... Afghans have always been at war, and if not with invaders, themselves. That isn't going to change, not today, not tomorrow, not ten years from now.

These are people who simply refuse to live in peace. The Taliban, especially, don't believe in democracy, they only believe in blood. It's difficult to imagine them ever negotiating with one another peacefully. It's do or die, literally.

I'm pretty sure that the US is still in Afghanistan. My former unit is still there, actually.

However, we are fully out of Iraq, afaik.

That's probably what he meant and got confused. #Tongue

I'm fairly certain that Americans are still in Kabul, especially. It's one of the very few places that has ever been considered a "green zone" in Afghanistan, from what I remember, or at least parts of it were.

For the rich, Kabul was just as modern as any western city; five-star hotels, malls, etc..

The geographical area called Afghanistan today is different to their historical counterparts. In the same way that the Prussian Empire is now undergoing a financial crisis and the Han are refusing to sign a treaty cutting carbon emissions. You have to be careful when simplifying a region to a set of current borders.
Just mentioning.

Meh, not surprised. This is their own problem and they're been at it for years long before the wars. Its the country's personal problems so let them resolve it like how anyone else resolves his own problem (unless they call for help). No need to be nosy about it. The US has done enough in Afghanistan.

Just leave and let them duke it out, it sounds harsh but there is shit nothing the US and her allies are going to do to stop it. Short of the US propping up the Afghan government for 50 years and pouring trillions into rebuilding it's economy from the dirt up, that country is going to be a hotbed of violence for the forseeable future and is going to go nowhere.

Actually, the only recent period in which there was a degree of stability was during the Soviet invasion...

A common enemy and CIA funding does great things for unity.
