Heads down for C&C marketing team: our cinema is closed.
Subject description: cncmovies.com has been wiped.
Have you ever watched the movies from the campaigns from old Command & Conquer games at CnC Movies site that was created when EA APOC was still the community manager? Guess what? You can no longer visit this site anymore. I've noticed here while I was updating the links at this site. EA has cleared up several old C&C portals, including the FTP from Westwood, which now redirects to EA FTP, which wouldn't be a problem if they didn't disappear with patches and content for old Westwood games, such as Tiberian Dawn and Sun, Red Alert 1 and 2, all dune games, etc.
And all that for what? To cut monthly costs, saving few cents every now and then? It's actually a great way to cut propaganda for future C&C games, afterall, movies from the campaigns were one of the attractions that these games used to have. Anyway, fortunately, we still have YouTube.
Update: Few minutes after this news was posted, the Westwood FTP was suddenly fixed and returned to display Westwood files. But there is no sign of change for cncmovies.com domain. Last edited by Banshee on Wed Feb 29, 2012 7:41 pm; edited 3 times in total QUICK_EDIT

Link still goes to the Westwood ftp for me and not the EA one. _________________

Uhh it literally seemed to change back in the last few minutes. Now it's the old WW stuff again, before (when I first read this news post) it was different with a Maxis, EA Pacific etc folder (including RA3 Beta patches). QUICK_EDIT
I've visited the WW FTP dozens of times in the last few years, and sometimes it has redirected me to some EA FTP and at other times I've seen the contents of the WW FTP (seems to be pretty random). It has been this way for as far as I can remember. _________________ CnCNet Client | CnCNet TS patches | More Quality-of-Life Improvements for RA Remastered
I've seen it randomly change from the old WW FTP to the EA FTP a few times over the last two years or so, Banshee. I don't really understand the reasons behind it, thanks for highlighting the issue.
Good to see it's back up, and yeah I checked a week ago and it redirected to the EA FTP. -.-
edit: Seems to redirect to the EA FTP, with a Westwood folder that contains almost no files, for me, anyone else getting this?
edit2: Now it redirects to the old Westwood FTP again, weird. :S QUICK_EDIT
ftp.westwood.com. 2994 IN CNAME ftpwestwood.ea.com.
ftpwestwood.ea.com. 93 IN CNAME ftpwestwood.ea.com.akadns.net.
ftpwestwood.ea.com.akadns.net. 81 IN A 159.153.229.109
ftpwestwood.ea.com.akadns.net. 81 IN A 159.153.229.108
As you can see, there are two servers here. DNS allows for multiple IPs at one domain for redundancy. In that case, all servers should be configured the same, as DNS picks an IP adress by random. Guess what, one of these is EA's, the other old Westwood's server. They don't need to change anything to make the weirdness happen.
Fortunately you can work arrround this easily by just connecting to an IP adress.
Westwood FTP is 159.153.229.108, or use the alias I created, which is easier to remember: [removed]
I came across this when I tried to connect to the site by Opera and Filezilla at the same time, getting different content, so I tried to figure out wtf was going on. Last edited by Bachsau on Thu May 17, 2012 4:36 am; edited 2 times in total QUICK_EDIT
