Make CnC:RA2 portable

I kinda want to play RA2 anywhere off my USB. Is it possible to make it portable with as few bugs as possible?

As long as you find a way to get the game to work with no, yeah I think everything should be fine.

Ares is for the CD problem. Or I could just bring a CD. The idea is to be able to play it anywhere if it requires a CD or not.

Just use Ares -CD argument. And of course copy all the files needed from the disk first. That should suffice to make it portable. Are we talking about YR or just plain RA2? Cause I don't think it's possible with RA2. Unless you hack the exe of course.

I'll add to this and say that this step is unnecessary if the version of RA2 you have is TFD version. TFD RA2 game.exe/ra2.exe works without disc by default.

In any case, I think just copying the files (including those on disc, i.e movies, music & maps - in case of TFD these are already in RA2 directory instead of disc) to USB drive should suffice. However, running the game directly from USB drive will almost certainly increase loading times, so I'd advise you copy the game files to a local disk first where possible. Additionally it's possible that you encounter problems trying to run the game on a machine where you have restricted permissions, such as is the case in many schools & public places like internet cafes.

Speaking of internet, online play (atleast using XWIS) might not work either since game is not properly installed on the machine and can't read the associated Windows registry settings including the serial key.

I've been running YR off a USB stick for years without any problem. I run it with an ISO & not Ares -NOCD tho, so just need to make sure the PC I'm using has a virtual drive program installed.

I've Played several LAN games from it too BTW, I haven't tried it online but CnCNet should work fine tho.
