Terragen Users?
Has anyone here ever used Terragen? If not, then you should. It's fantasticly powerful and you can make great renders and cameos from it. I'll have to post some of the stuff I made with it, it's really good and realistic. _________________

It's cool, I've been using it for a LONG time... but not for anything CnC related, just for cool wallpapers I only wish there was a way to depict tidal waves or something like that... It only makes flat water, with ripples, but nothing STORMY... I don't call myself an artist, cause I'm not, with art I'm as good as a blind monkey
Maybe I'll attach something later, if I find old interesting renders. QUICK_EDIT

These are some of my ones. A lot of mine are mainly for cameos so are quite flat, but these ones will hopefully be for full renders of stuff.
I like the sunset one there Nobody.
Thanks, your renders also are cool, not to mention more detailed Last edited by John Galt on Wed Nov 12, 2003 8:42 am; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT
Actually it is, unless you want to use the art u make for profit, in which case u must register it for a price. _________________

I found a good use for it... I'm going to use it to make cameo backrounds for RA2... TS has specific ones.. but I'll use it for that... and backrounds for renders in general.. I have a few that I could just slap on a 3d tank or a 3d copter and it would be awesome... _________________ Formerly active PPM modder (maps, voxels, sprites) and Webmaster of C&C Central in the early 2000's on the Origin/Revora network. By the way, Banshee, how do I attach JPG to make it show a thumbnail-size only, and click to see full-size? I saw you did that somewhere before...
And as for the price... Somebody already said that, it's free for non-profit users, but Registration is required for commercial use. Plus registered users get some more features for uber-quality images.

Nice... as for thumbnail, it was an accident that happened with the attachments when we moved, but it annoyed PPM:FD crew (including me), so we removed it... QUICK_EDIT

Different textures: open Landscape window (where you draw the terrain), Surface Map section -> Open, but there are only few presets, so you better make a new one ... Surface Map section -> Edit or Add Child. Add more child surfacemaps for variation, since one map can only be one color. Fore instance, my last creation (snowy rock next to a lake) was built using one texture map with two child surfaces, so it has three types of terrain: rock, grass and snow (preset GrassAndSnow2). QUICK_EDIT
BTW, there are many options in Terragen to help you customize the looks of surfaces, look at Surface Map -> Edit -> Advanced Distribution (child surfaces only). You can set that yellow to appear only at a certain height, or on certain angle of slope, or whatever you choose. QUICK_EDIT

Yes they are a start. How did you do the sharp cliffs?
to make the sharp cliffs I just messed around a lot with the "glaciate" and "canyonize" stuff... and it seemed to make things ether narrower or pointier. _________________ Formerly active PPM modder (maps, voxels, sprites) and Webmaster of C&C Central in the early 2000's on the Origin/Revora network.
