PPM News at the News Tracker
Subject description: Covering september and late august 2012.
Howdy! If you are one of those people who doesn't know what is the PPM News Tracker, you might have the impression that this site is dead or inactive for over 2 weeks. And of course, this is not true. First of all, meet the news tracker at the top of http://www.ppmsite.com. Our news tracker has been boosted recently with additional features that allows to track more and more news, like replies with pictures from specific people at certain topics. This is why its activity has boosted recently. That and a couple of projects that joined PPM recently. Also, we have extended it with Red Alert 3 content and we'll extend it with other games, as soon as projects for them join us and get some activity.
Anyway, if you are willing to stay tuned with the latest news that is happening here, check the News Tracker daily. Or... wait another two weeks or more for a news post. I still have a master dissertation to present by the end of the month (26th) and I'm running out of time with that. At this moment, my advisor is revising the document, which is why I'm having time to post this news.
Anyway, here's a quick roundup:
New Mods:
-> The War Factory has joined the ranks of PPM. This is a Red Alert 3 mod that works like a factory providing units (code and graphics) for modders who wanna modify the game. It's our motivation for the recent creation of the Red Alert 3 Finished Mods & Models Showcase.
Ares at PPM
-> Ares is the next generation of binary-based Command & Conquer modding. It fixes and enhances the Yuri's Revenge game engine in a variety of ways, allowing modders to expand the game with never before seen custom units. We all know Ares here, right? We have a horde of tutorials for Ares in our forums... anyway, the news is that it has an unofficial forum at PPM. If you don't feel confortable with its official site, use its new place here to discuss its bugs or features.
Talking about Ares, 0.2 RC2 has been released here and it needs you to test it.

Hello again!
No plans for the distant future to announce yet; first we have to cope with the present.
The number of newly reported bugs is going down, which is good. Only a few changes have been made to Ares since RC1 came out, and all of them have been tested. This should be enough to call it RC2, which can be downloaded now.
The changes include a bugfix for the crash when mind-controlled ships sink and the mind-controller dies as well as some stability improvements. Also, the load and save menu buttons have been disabled for the time being.
If all goes well, this will become the final 0.2 in a few days. Grab your copy quickly and test it while it's still being called RC. Have some fun with it!

-> Tiberian Sun 3 1.2 has been released since... err late june. And I've missed the news. It includes the conquest mode, two new maps, several new units (most of it are aircraft), some revamped graphics and other changes. Download it HERE. We may mirror it at PPM (and update our links) soon.
-> Twisted Insurrection has a lot of units being revealed once in a while... and recently a cool looking box art, but that's spam. The units are the cool things you'll see in the next release, like the M.S.V. below:
Red Alert 2 Mods:
-> Tiberian Sun Rewire is active again and it already has some interesting civilian assets to show here.
-> Colony Wars is being overrun by soviet infantry recently. A lot of them has been spawned and they are taking control of the mod for Mother Russia. The pcitures below shows Tesla Corps and Prism Vanguards respectively, but there are much more at the Colony Wars forums.
-> DDay is another mod that is being infested with soviets recently. But instead of infantry, they have some vehicles like the ones below. Click here for more.
Generals (and Zero Hour) Mods:
-> Frontline Chaos has a mysterious gate that nobody could figure out exactly what is it so far. Give it a try:
And some progress with the Revenants structures and some vehicle detailing:
-> Crossfire had a major improvement on the GDI models. Check some of them below or head to their forums to look at all units changed recently.
And finally, the news outside PPM:
-> CNCNZ.com is providing some decent news recently. There is one roundtable discussion with the CNCNZ staff about the Free To Play model on Command & Conquer.
-> Kane's Wrath Mod SDK is available to download again, after several months offline. Grab 1.0.6 HERE.
And... what else? Yet another compilation of all Comand & Conquer games in one package... that you have to download the whole thing from Origin now? No thanks. That's all for today. QUICK_EDIT

Make a thread at Generals 2 will have skirmish! And will so then add ra and ts units to it to WTF.
I'm just as interested in this game as in Tiberium Alliances.
Anyway, I'm gonna wait to get more solid information on how these campaigns will work before giving it a proper attention in the site. If you are looking for speculation, visit CNCNZ.com. They post every single interview, article, etc that is filled with 90% of things that you already know and maybe one useful information that you probably already thought they would do it. Honestly, I'm seeing no news at all these interviews. The only difference between this game and the old ones is that with this new Free to Play business model, they can add new features as small patches and sell them (or not). Of course that a boxed 'premium' game also allows this kind of thing, but they needed an excuse to fully control the distribution of their games and prevent piracy at all costs. The lack of modding is already expected since the game is fully online (to prevent piracy). But this business model also opposes the concept of user generated content, which prevents maps from users.... which is a terrible deal, since EA is loving to create symmetrical maps. QUICK_EDIT
Banshee, I read this at the biggest Norwegian game site. Called Gamer.no. Some got the info by Polygon.
--
In an interview with Polygon says EA's Frank Gibeau fact now that the game is still going to have a enspillerdel.
- Our intention is to create a triple-A experience, and by that I mean that we use Frostbite technology, we use very good graphics. Does that mean we do not have enspillerdel? No, it's something we naturally have understood is important to people, says Gibeau to Polygon.
Furthermore, says EA manager that the game will also be based on the fictional conflict between the U.S., China and the terrorist group Global Liberation Army from 2003S Command & Conquer: Generals. The plan is also to gradually introduce units from Red Alert and Tiberium series into the game, but exactly how this will work is unclear.

I don't really see a problem with that.
I mean, if I got a penny every time I saw a stealth tank, or titan or flametank, or devastator or any other iconic C&C unit in a Generals mod... I'd be rich. QUICK_EDIT

The story wouldn't be merged. I think that they'll eventually put the factions together on skirmish or multiplayer.... the problem is that it will affect the ballance of the units critically. QUICK_EDIT
The RA/Tiberian stuff be cameos. Dozens of games have done it, some even merging stories (Super Robot Wars, Dissidia: Final Fantasy, etc). Doubt that they'll merge stories but I don't see much problem with incorporating those units as some sort of guest fighters who are just there for nostalgia. _________________ The future belongs to The Forgotten!
