Subject description: What determines target acquisition distance on base defenses?

For researching a certain type of SuperWeapon, I have given the Grand Cannon a primary weapon with infinite range (-2) and a secondary weapon with the original Grand Cannon weapon stats. The Grand Cannon will however not engage targets within the infinite range of the primary, but only targets within the range of the secondary. It is possible to attack targets in infinite range via manual control, but the cannon will not engage them on its own. Is the "aggression distance" in which a base defense fires at enemy units determined by the secondary weapon, if present? And if not, how is it determined?

(Giving the infinite-range weapon as a secondary does not work, as the range of the primary overrides the range of the secondary on structures. This is propably common knowledge.)

CanPassiveAquire=no is afaik universal

Also range=-2 is special case for spawner weapons

Try range=500 or something higher

Replacing -2 with 500 really did get it to work, I'm assuming Range=-2 somehow precludes target acquisition in that range. Thanks much for the quick help.
