The card's PCI-Express x16 and the board has an x16 lane. It will work just fine.

Thanks FurryQueen.  I guess I ignored minor details just over excitement of getting the card.  I owe you one.

I'll never understand why people throws away that amount of money into a simple videocard. Confused

1. Because I have the money. 2. Because I am sick of my GT 520... I need good graphics.

Graion, I'm on the verge of dropping almost 700 dollars on a Quadro 4000, and another 200 to upgrade to 32GB of RAM (vs my current 16), and 200 for a liquid cooling system.

You wonder why I would spend over 1000USD for "simple upgrades"? because My 460GTX is a great card, however I no longer play games... I have moved to creating things for them. 3DS Max has drivers and software that are designed to go hand-in-hand with the Quadro hardware. I'll cut my rendering time by 70%. In the world of 3D, that's a huge deal.

I plan on dropping around $450 on my next GPU. I still play a lot of games and high end ones at that so I need that kind of power to keep things running smoothly. Hell, I'm even going to be upgrading my RAM to a higher speed than what I have and I'm going to replace my SSD again.

daTS, you're going to need more than $200 for a good liquid cooled system. Try about $1200 to $1400 for a proper one.

It's a used system. My dad is upgrading to a Liquid Nitrogen system (paid for by his work), and I am buying his current watercooling system

I understand the modelling part, but on the games... this is just way over the head of some (not actually on your side).

Back when I followed the gaming industry (around 2005 or so) you didn't needed a PC made from $1000 to play every current-gen games. I know my Radeon HD 3000 integrated can't handle Magicka well, but maybe that's caused by my 2 GB RAM paired with it solely... ffs, calling these monsters as a requirement is wat.

When did budget gamers got phased out this much?

I stopped using my own computer to render big things long ago. Cutting render time makes little sense for game development, imo. If you're rendering to sprites ala C&C, why does it matter whether it takes a few seconds or a few minutes? If you're building models for 3D games, rendering in the modeling software is unnecessary. If you're creating highpoly models for film, why are you rendering it on a single home pc?

Render farms are awesome. Find one, use it. 14400ish frames sent after breakfast, back after lunch (including the time that the file spent in the queue).

A big graphics card is nice, but in my experience somewhat underutilized unless it is the single thing holding you back. Just having more RAM has made my little nVidia card a very happy chap.

They haven't been, but the big budget games require a more powerful setup. If I'm going to play games on my PC, I'm going to get highest possible fidelity I can. Otherwise, what's the point? Might as well get a console at that point.
