Windows 8

I try to play RA2YR on Windows 8. The game launch normally, but when it hit the menu screen, the sidebar button isn't showing. I try to blind-click the button, it play the anim that button move out, showing the button for next menu, but then it's instantly disappear. I try to blind click until play a skirmish play, but it don't start.

Any fix? Or it's completely unplayable with windows 8?

Alot of people have been saying Windows 8 is still buggy,especially with games. If you wanna play games reliably stick to XP, (Vista?) or 7

Maybe try running it in compatibility mode?

tried to run as admin and compatibility mode windows XP SP2, still have same problem

IAN, why you had to go to the dark side?!

Win8 is the Sith Lord. Tho I dunno the rest, I guess it leaves out more from the old DX handling... maybe try that LH_Mouse Intelfix.

I had a hard time installing and playing Fallout 3 on W8 too.

If I got Tiberian Sun to run flawlessly on Windows 8, RA2 should run fine too. I have it set to run on XP SP2, I force reduced color, disable display scaling on high DPI settings and run it as an admin. I also make it run in a window. Worked for Tib Sun. May work for RA2.

throw it into vmware
install xp init

and play with peace

(win 8 sucks btw)

That's an option but it's not anywhere near the most elegant.

If you want elegance, you could go with a setup like mine:

Desktop House Media Server 3.4GHZ quad 8GB ram 6TBHD 8800GTX VideoCard Windows 7 Below desk hooked to 40inch wall mounted LCD above desk, Laptop 2GHZ quad 8GB ram 2TBHD IntegratedVideo windows 7 attached to 20 inch Desk mounted lcd, and Laptop 2.5GHZ dualcore 2GB ram 500GBHD IntegratedVideo windows xp attached to 20 inch Desk mounted lcd, all networked shared via gigabit lan router and Cat7 cables, and using input director to have all systems at my desk use the seem keyboard and mouse for all 3 systems. I can even play 3 player on ra2 by myself.

While this may seem overkill, building, salvaging, repairing pc's is my side business. And I may just be a glutton for PC power.
