I found a ripper mod is selling in china, lol

Someone built a mod full of public assets and now he is selling it(to unlock a hidden unit pay 30, to ulock all pay 100).....What a shame. So I called a group of middle level modders to crack that mod, and will release it for free.

If the mod was created with assets they made themselves they'd have been in their full right to sell it, but considering they're using public assets I'd say crack away.

They're trying to make money of other people's work, so they deserve far worse than having their mod cracked -_-

i never know Ra2+yr mod can be sell before so if it be sell maybe i will have more reason to keep modding. :p

however if they just sell like another pirate game what ever right or not i don't think we can stop them anyway...

longtime ago since i don't know how to make any asset i make Ra2 mod with public asset and release it. not so long I'm surprise when i found my mod sell on pirate CD store.

yes i didn't sell it by my self because i never think ra2 or yr mod is allow to sell anyway because copy right reason.

about the guy who stole your mod why don't you just give link to download the mod directly for free? :p

No, my mod is not that good looking to sell. You can see my mod is full of hand draw squares. I tell everyone it is for modders only. Few players know it, not a problem. ROS can sell at a good price , I think :p

That guy is selling his own mod tho. But he has no credit for the assets at all. Making money with other people's work so I will release a crack of his mod.

If your using WestWoods (EA's) engine, it dosent matter if you make everything in it yourself. Its illegal to sell any modded game using existing engines without permission from engines creators/owners. Now had he recrerated the RA2/YR engine then yes he could sell it. Its just due time before EA catches him and sues him.

ROS is not popular as you think. if i check good enough from google. i found only 5000 download [ count from all mirror website i found combine]. 1700 on modDB and as you see i have no follower like mental omega , renegade x or twisted insurrection.

maybe because it lack of info no preview vdo or advertisement plus the community is drying compare with the past.

about your mod i think it's same reason, i don't know how active community in china but from i look right now i saw only few mod still in active [i mean only ra2+yr project] and most people don't care to moding this 10 year game anymore. only ra2yr mod i saw it show up on community news every week-month is update of Mental Omega.

But this guy is doing it the smart and legal way though, he's only selling his creations not anything pertaining to westwood assets. He only wants you to pay to unlock his own personal stuff, so legally he can do this and you Kenosis can get in trouble for cracking it.

oh i see how they do. it's really smart to do such... even so if they add new unit that's mean he need to update rulesmd / art and other ini which is 1 of Westwood original file... how he avoid to do this?

Plus very good mods generally aren't made by just 1 single person unless his name is Gangster and dividing money made from a sold mod among the staff would likely become a troublesome affair...

of course I am not the guy releasing the crack. I am the guy behind the curtains. I have my follower modders doing this. It is easy to piss off players when you tell them nothing in that mod actually belongs to the mod creator, and he is asking money for it.

Actually if you want to get money, go indie, big game companies simply WON'T let you gain profit from their games. And don't forget we have to read a big contract/paragraph/text/asd to play a game, probably that text tells us EXPLICITY not to get profit from their game.

That guy can't do a thing if you release a crack from their game, if he tries to do something legally he may end having EA's layers on their ass.

I don't think EA cares that much unless it's a newer game which still sells amounts that actually matter to them. IIRC they didn't do much about Oztronix despite him selling RA2 and the community reporting his "game" to EA (a lot of modders here should remember that case).

If it just was Blizzard instead of EA, he'd get nuked hard.

The lack of quality in that project is terrible and worse off its being sold as if some quality product, you basically always expect quality for something being sold and in this case its far off that... No matter how they are supposedly his creations while really lifted from other mods or communitys, his coding work not merit paying for it and since he had to touch original game assets such as inis to make it work it is illegal no matter what thus you can't sell mods of the game or you pretty much ask EA's lawyers after you... Unlikely they care as much like say Blizzard but if they do, they will ztype you up.

just similar to what i live here when you tell people about how bad of pirate software, they away come out with logic about anti capitalism thing [i wonder salary of work they earn every end of month isn't capitalism ?]. :p
