Are there any tools to decrypt or "unprotect" a protected/encrypted RA2 MIX file? I saw on ModEnc how to do this manually, but I'm lazy and the description was a bit tedious. I'm looking into unprotecting the files that come with CannisRules.

I'm having an issue where XCC mixer doesn't show any names for the stock ra2 MIX files like language.mix. Even though XCC mixer "found" RA2 and under File -> Found I can select all RA2 files which are all loaded. The problem is that it shows me the actual MIX ID for every file inside the mix, instead of the name XCC mixer usually shows.

There is no automated tool, but it isn't that hard since CannisRules is contained in only 2ish mix files. (I unprotected them a while back because I wanted to use the Scorpion Raider in a private mod.)

Think of the whole thing as an IQ test to keep people from ripping assets and releasing them.

Such XCC Mixer issue has to do with its database file, its gotten screwy and just replace it from original.

As for Cannis, He'd be raging right now if he was around, anyhow the trick used on there can be lifted fully with whole filenames if your enough skilled but he did protect it for a reason and that was community thiefering of his assets.

Using his mod as learning block wasn't his intent Very Happy

A file called 'global mix database.dat' in the directory of XCC Mixer has most likely been corrupted. You need to restore it from the original download of XCC Mixer.

But he is't. For 8 years at least. And nobody asks him right now.

Iran, I may send you if I find files. I downloaded long time ago somewhere unprotected. However, filenames are lost. But it wont be problem for you if you know what you are looking for.

Ownership rights aren't only valid as long as someone is active!
IIRC something around 50 years after the death of the creator, the copyrights are no longer valid.

@Banshee: the ' in the link makes it impossible to set this as an url

Yeah the reason copyrights are so long is a result of companies wanting to continue to use them after the creators death. Case in point, see Disney's infinite copyrights.

Could someone explain to me how to get XCC mixer to show names for the default RA2 files, instead of the internal MIX IDs?

Thanks for the help, I got it working after re-installing XCC mixer. The .dat file was missing for some reason. It's even more odd since all the RA1 MIX files were being recognized properly.

Are there any pages/forum threads with info about the corrupted ra2 maps inside the game's data files?

You mean in maps01/02.mix?

Don't bother looking, those are pre-release, the terrain INI's got redone, reordered or whatever, have fun fixing them, there's no way to do that the easy way.

IIRC RA2 DeeZire had them fixed, not sure in that.

e31 can be fixed easy-ish with notepad, its the same demo map that was at E3, it can be opened in FinalAlert as well
e32 is a big pain in the ass, it can be opened in unmodified state in FinalSun tho
In e32 there was a Allied base to the NW and a Soviet base to SE in the original map, it's a Soviet mission map.
There are 2 more mission maps as well, they are hidden  Wink ,they are in even more corrupt state than e32 tho

Any info on these? I've seen screenshots of them but that was a long time ago.
