GamesCOM 2013!
Subject description: PPM Invasion Confirmed! We are going there!
Ladies and gentlemen: we are proud to announce that... err... ok: I am proud to announce that PPM will have a representative at the CommandCOM 2013 and the name of this representative is.... * drum hits *... errr.. Banshee. Yes, I'll be representing Project Perfect Mod (and CnC Guild, indirectly) at CommandCOM 2013.
So, for those wondering, CommandCOM is an event inside GamesCOM where some selected C&C community members will interact with the developpers of the next Command & Conquer game and their marketing team, of course. The spotlight of the event is certainly the Command & Conquer live service.
In order to go there, I've studied (played and finished all campaigns from) Generals and Zero Hour. I've also played an alpha version of the new Command & Conquer game in this week. Unfortunately, the NDA doesn't let me talk much about it, but the video below should show you the graphics of the game:
Just be aware, as you watch this video, that this is an alpha version and there is a lot of things that will be polished in the future.
Now, I need to know what do you think of this game? What would you like in a C&C game? What would you tell the developpers of this game? Post your words here and I'll try to bring it to the devs. However, hurry up with your opinion, since the event in Cologne starts on day 23rd and ends up on 24th.
Finally, if you had the opportunity to play the alpha version, please, remember that you signed a non-disclosure agreement. Do not post pictures of it here, nor reveal information that was not revealed by EA.
Finally, if you are also coming to CommandCOM, you might find an updated picture of me HERE. I wanna meet everyone there and have a lot of fun. QUICK_EDIT
mechanics look just as simple as earlier cnc installments, and this simplicity is just outdated and branded as noobie gaming, i'll be cool if there could be more depth, to the tech tree, and through research. (upgrades/armor/etc) _________________ Hydraw Art on Facebook QUICK_EDIT
Well, I can see why so many people over at the official forums are pretty pissed. That was a half-assed presentation there. But since its still in alpha, the game obviously needs a lot of touching up. They're obviously hiding some of the more interesting stuff... Still, good to know that SP mode and Campaign missions are in the game after all. Now let's see about that F2P thing...
And my guess that Nitro is a "hit 'n' run + demolition" general is right _________________ The future belongs to The Forgotten!
The AI and pathfinding seems to work as bad as ever. Units
-turning stupidly around
-stopping at max weapon range and thus blocking following units (should instead move 1 or 2 cells closer, so following units can shoot too without moving around them)
-and completely recalculating the path while it's blocked for only a millisecond and waiting on the spot for this short duration would have been much faster than rotating on the spot and taking a much longer route.
I know it's alpha, but i doubt it will become much better than this.
I would love to see an AI that comes even close to the one of the 1998 RTS Dark Reign. Even today this game has by far the most impressive AI i've ever seen. (here is a quick overview of the orders menu, which is 10 times more complex than anything C&C ever provided with its 4 keyboard shortcuts)
Here also player units can perform complex tasks automatically like scouting, harrassing (attack, retreat, attack, retreat, to really annoy the enemy) etc
In addition did this game offer a complex waypoint system that even allowed harvesters to be re-routed: from "refinery" -> follow waypoint path -> path ends and harvester searches next ressource field (water/taelon in DR) -> harvester goes back to path going it in reverse order back to the refinery.
This allowed to set save routes for harvester and never ended up in stupid situations like the classic C&C harvester going through an enemy base. _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings
I played 2 awesome rounds of wargame in the new conquest beta mode right before coming here. Afterwards this video looks like a kids game with hyper spastic kid commentators.
at least its free to play so I don't have to spend money to find out how trashy it is. any news on the release?
@banshee this might have been a replay, the commentators seem like they were acting and knew what to say beforehand. _________________ Free Tibed!

The execution of the presentation might have been terrible (they did not play the game there, it is quite clear and the comentator was aware of the video...eerr... I mean, the whole 'match' in advance ), but the game looks exactly like that, except that some scenes were cut and somethings were fast forwarded. QUICK_EDIT
