So I've done all the stuff to install the launcher properly and it will even work the first time and go to the menu for TI but after I click any button it freezes.  So I quit and try to run it again, except this time in the launcher it will not let me choose a screen resolution and leaves it blank. I try to "launch" the program and get this mess. What do?

EDIT***********************
So I fixed it through a mix of compatibility and setting it to 16 bit color, now it just keeps crashing every few seconds.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
   <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

So yeah.... Not really sure what to do at this point.... any and all help appreciated.
I should probably mention that I am on Windows 8 but have Tiberian Sun installed and it works fine, I had a lot of the problems other people mentioned with TS on Windows 8 at first but then i started running it as administrator and literally every problem except for a small display size went away.

So running the launcher in compatibility mode fixed the error, except now when I get to the menu clicking on any option freezes me/menu refresh error. I'm not quite sure what the correct terminology is but when i click on any thing nothing happens and the other buttons become unresponsive. the music still plays and if I hit escape it will "unlock" the buttons, so to speak.

So I managed to fix everything and now the mod works, barring an internal error that i had once.  In other words I have what i think is a windows 8 fix.
I ended up combining ideas from numerous help posts and thought it would be useful if I listed what worked for me in one place.

first things first, go to the properties of the launcher and set it to compatibility for XP service pack 2. other compatibilities may work, that is just the one i used. While still in compatibility set it to reduced color mode and in the pull down menu set it to 16 bit color. while there you may as well set it to run as administrator to save yourself clicks later. when in the launcher you need to set it to windowed and set the screen resolution to a size smaller than your resolution, if the screen ends up outside of the boundaries of your screen it will cause crashes within the game.

I hope this helps anyone else with windows 8 issues, i'll post this in a different post specifically for window 8 fixes if any thinks it would be useful

This is all fixed for Public Beta 5 (and DTA 1.12's Launcher) btw.

Cool, glad to know that this problem won't crop up for other people then.  I just kept seeing people with issues with Wndows 8 and thought I'd try and help.  If this is a fixed or non issue now though feel free to delete this post in its entirety.

so here is my new problem.  I had everything working fine, even vanilla TS was working, long before i got the mod even. Then like an idiot I updated to Windows 8.1 yesterday because i thought it was about time I updated and some of the features seemed useful. now the sound will not work in the game and the cut scenes from TS are broken. What do?
