screen resolution issue

i am getting the following error after installing the game no matter which resolution i select and wondered if there is any support please?

I'm afraid I don't have a fix available right now, we haven't heard about this specific error before (it seems to be running fine for other Windows 8 users).

We might be able to enable full screen mode for Windows 8 in an update in the future though, which would likely solve your issue.

Maybe missing admin rights block qres from getting the necessary graphic adapter information?

Hmm, it shouldn't call QRes to change the resolution to something like that. But if it was a bug in the Launcher, it'd affect other Windows 8 users too. Strange.

I'll look into this issue when I have free time again, in April. Maybe there's a very situational bug causing this. While waiting for a possible fix, you could try reinstalling DTA if you feel like trying it.

Another very good advice: uninstall crap win8 and install win7 which is at least somehow working. A tablet optimised OS on a normal laptop or desktop PC is one hell of a stupid design decision from Masosoft in the first place.

With Windows 8.1 and the upcoming 8.1 Update 1 (kinda stupid naming mechanism, should be 8.2 or something) the Metro stuff is/will be much less of an issue. Not to mention there's at least a dozen Start menu replacements available and it's generally a bit (0-3% from what I've seen) faster than Windows 7 on the same hardware. Boot speed is an exception; there Windows 8 has a massive advantage.

So, Metro does suck for mouse users, but it's easily fixed and doesn't make Windows 8 the horrible doomsday bringer which a lot of people say it is (often without trying the OS in the first place).

Regarding DTA, the only thing broken in Windows 8 is the modified DirectDraw, because of which we have to use Wine's components and force windowed mode to enable playable performance on Windows 8. Hopefully we find a better workaround in the future, people aren't going to change their operating system just because of TS and its mods.

how do i make the game launch into windowed mode? i did the -window for the program but it didnt do anything and i still had the same problem, and yes it is being ran in admin mode

You don't need to, DTA's Launcher does it automatically. For now all I can say is that an update could fix your issue in the future. In April there'll be a massive Launcher update with tons of fixes and new features. There's a large chance that I'll also look into your issue and manage to fix it, so if you have some patience I'd check DTA out again once the update is out Smile
