is this track even possible? I mean it goes so high. it starts high then goes low, then really high. I would think the small wheel is not needed, it would seem pointless

Even with an extra wheel, the tracks would probably fall off when it tried to turn, without it tho they would fall off as soon as it moves XP

Thread updated.
Ah, it feels good to be back. Welp,  I do in fact realize that there is a large amount of black dot syndrome going on, but I'll fix that later.

(This is the first time I've touched vxse in a week... so criticize me as much as you want!)

Also,  a hint as to why I haven't been doing much as of late: SAO...

It looks good, but the treads is still too small for that body which is so wide.

Give it another 2 or 4 more lines to treads and it will probably looks better.

^^yep. This unit would run onto ground on the slightest bump and get stuck.
It would need a lot more space under the chassis and wider tracks to be all-terrain capable.

See this video at 2:40. Getting stuck like this would happen constantly to such a tank as yours.

it would be better if you upload new picture in these new posts. When you replace old pics in previous posts, their following discussion is now out of place, since the pics they refer to don't exist anymore.

So I just made an extremely Zero18 tank #Tongue

EDIT: animated treads seem to do wonky things to the turret as well... any known fix for that?

The animated Treads trick is by shrinking the other copy of treads via transform in HVA Builder to 0 on all dimensions. in its next frame.

The Turret never casted shadows unless it was a SHP Unit.

I knew that much already, but the Turret is moving around for some reason when it goes directly upwards

Its not Zero18's Style.

It was done by some Chinese Voxellers. Bazzund (Can't spell his name) and Shin.Peter.Pan

No offense taken. I personally dislike that tank because I think that Zero18's tanks should stay in his mod and his mod only, however,

When I meant the no offence it was to Zero18 since i'm not sure if he likes being called the "Mod with Cute Voxel Units" Laughing

I meant the first people to try making animated wheels/treads for Tanks. Before they only did it with symmetrical treads but now that they've figured out something new method which your saying Zero18 thought of.

The Voxels look fine to be honest. Everybody has their own voxelling style. Yours has their own vibe to it. Smile

The Prism-like tank looks pretty good. The first one looks weird.

What kind of normalizer are you using?

Atomic_Noodles wrote:

I'm not too concern about my voxels being too cute because I know that these voxels will be replaced into better looking voxels now. I didn't intended on making cute voxels anyway --- was trying to make it looks more cartoonish, but anyway no offense taken.

Time to learn how to hand-paint normals then? That's one of the bigger hurdles I'd see from using that method of animation.

Yeah I guess so... It's kind of of odd how it works with this tank though. This is what happens: first phase: perfectly fine. Looks absolutely amazing. Second phase: looks like shit, third phase: even crappier. The wierd thing here is that they are all theoretically the same voxel, and even if I have two of the same voxels, the second one will always be a piece of crap.

What I usually do in that scenario is that I fill the holes with brick, normalize it when it's filled then delete all the brick. That way the normals will be fine.

I did this trick on Mig Eater's Crusader treads which are hollow under the skirt.

well, I don't think that's the problem... you see, the problem here is that one of them normalizes perfectly fine and yet the second one normalizes all wierd.. I'll see if I can get any screenies of what happens...

You might have overlap issues with the tread sections ingame with this one.. Unless there's something I don't know about sections & overlapping

You should check out BAZ.N.D's thread then... he has animated treads... they don't overlap because of this: first frame: phase 2 and 3 go view transform 0, second frame: phase 2 now visible, phase 3 stays gone, phase 1 disappears. Do this as many times as you want to get the desired effect Very Happy

by overlapping I mean, if the game decides to display the tank section in front or behind the tread sections, since what you see in the 3D preview isn't always what you see in game.
I made a cement truck with a rotating mixer once, but haf the time, the body was being displayed over the mixer section

Smart, but I would imagine that the filesize of voxel will be much bigger with three section of whole body with just treads color changing. I'm curious to see how it looks in-game when moving.

Like if you want to edit something after making three whole body section to make it same, you have to do it every section. If you decided to scrap it off and put it in new section, I think you are going to redo it in new voxel file otherwise you get wobble voxel when it is animated, which is annoying.

Personally I find this works better... not to offend you or anything... still, including the turret of that tank & it's HVAs, and its Body, its still only 329kb... Just as a comparison, how big is the file for your avenger tank? Also, come to mention your avenger tank needs to be put on your banner #Tongue
EDIT: especially with my tanks... alot of the tracks are under things so it would look rather buggy if you were to do anything else with it #Tongue

I'm still debating myself whether I should keep old one or new one. I might just make a new one anyway. It wasn't meant to be that small. #Tongue

80kb File size total (36 kb for the body and 42kb for the Turret and 2kb from both HVA). Having so many filesize that big will slow down loading time for sure, unless your planning on making a mod that is worth enough for players to sit in front of the computer to wait for the game to load.

Still, I'm curious to see how it look in-game with it animation. Probably you should GIF that animation in-game.
