So just an introduction, I'm Gistop, (in case you didn't know) and recently, I have become more accustomed as to how voxels work. This here is my art thread, which will include all of my voxels and shps, any art that I find no actual use for will be put up for download.
The remaining voxels will be available in my mod, <insert mod name here>
So,  if you like what you see, leave your feedback, or if you don't like what you see, give me feedback on how I could improve, because I prefer citicism as opposed to no feedback whatsoever.
My mod is based in the future (just like all other mods these days *sighs*) so all of the units will not reflect conman's original art style. (i.e. the very bright tanks)

A quick little peek at what is to come:
When you get too lazy, this happens:

On the other hand, it's actually a nice voxel.. needs touching up though... there's a signifigant part that's missing...:

Looks fine, but IMO don't post WIP images. Finish one, insert a 360 pic and an ingame shot then wait the feedback.

It looks like Banshee still did not correct the weird scatter effect that happens to the colors when converting the voxels to polygons.

Every topology rendering method does different coloring, IIRC the highest quality has it fixed, but this ain't that.

Okay, so just a heads up, competition over myah:

This is just proof that small voxels can be good, and can preserve detail

And also, 360 degrees gif:

EDIT: DL Updated. Tracks are fixed

Shouldnt you update the first post with your voxel images? This way I don't have to scroll down to check them out, all in one convenient place.

And what do you mean, 'is this thread dead?' You are the one responsible to update it, as it is YOUR art thread.

Those are pretty, I haven't tested mine in game yet, this is my first soviet voxel, and it might look odd, the yuri drone is probably gonna be real weird, auto-normals does weird crap to it.

How it looks in the editor is no indicator of how it will look ingame. Plus, different normalizing algorithms achieve different results, and behave differently if the voxel is filled or not. Not sure if this version VXLSE has different algorithms included, though.

It has the usual 4. HBR normalizing afaik still doesn't do anything.

You are clearly getting better. Nice job with voxels!

However, I would suggest that the line on Prism's turret side should be 2 line thick, not one line. That is to make it look good when you auto-normalize it, giving it better result after auto-normalizing and better smoothing.

Also, the Prism treads aren't gonna move the unit anywhere. You shoulda read about how treads actually work.

Most still try to abide by the laws of physics, your design would collapse under it's own weight tho.

The floating tanks are bit far fetched in MO, the saw blade tanks in TI are weird, and the centurion is also far fetched, but they are well designed. As long as they don't look like a 5 year old did it..........look at DDay, TI, MO, and RR..... they have quality stuff that looks good.

no, i wont play because of the sh**y looking tanks. My HONEST opinion they look like junk and that tells me the mod will suck.

The problem is we give kids medals for breathing these days, no one tells them no.

Ok, let me get this straight... people want me to make tanks that look strong... I hope I got that right. Now, you want me to make more badass guns, got that too...
I understand the part about better weapons, but these are the two most fragile tanks in the game. (THE PRISM TANK AND THE MIRAGE TANK) so they aren't meant to be hulking tanks of epicness...
EDIT: Also, Mirage tank is using the old barrel from the Original voxel... so that looks kinda crap atm.

Your tanks are weirdly wide.  Their proportions are crazy weird and don't even vaguely match the shapes, sizes, and scale of real world tanks.

Look at real world examples of armoured vehicles and tanks, and use the visual language present in them to evoke similar style in your voxels.

Functional Looking Designs. For a smaller example look at Zero18's designs they may look over the top and cartoonish but they are believable that they can work and function without toppling over or blowing up from just a single explosion.

So what I'm getting is this:
Don't build in the 60x60 voxel bounds that I build in.
Don't go overly futuristic.
Make things that would actually work.

My arguments are:
1. Supreme Commander... Nobody has complaints with that?

Try not to have the width be more that 2/3 the length of the vehicle.  For instance: ...Pretty much any vehicle.  You can bend this rule a little bit in a few special cases like NASA's crawler, but for the most part you want your vehicles to be longer than they are wide.  When a vehicle is as wide as it is long, that's visual shorthand for 'this vehicle is absolutely massive'.

Go as futuristic as you like, but assume that people still build things with structural integrity in mind in the future.  For instance: Hovertanks.  They're pretty much the epitome of futuristic tanks.  Them and mechtanks.  They usually try to follow the rule of 'look functional'.  They have a fundamentally science fiction aspect (they can fly/hover), which is blended to present day visuals.  The important thing here is the blend from the real to the fictional.  It needs to be believable...

Don't worry about things that would actually work, DO worry about things that would believably work.  For instance: tanks with bigass plasma cannons on them.  As long as it looks like the weapon has weight, methods of venting dangerous materials, and other things that we as layperson viewers believe are needed; we'll happily believe that it's a tank with a bigass plasma cannon.

Supreme Commander's vehicle designs range from inspired to shit.  But mostly, I'm not a fan.  That's personal opinion there though.

Man, the Crawler is possibly my favourite vehicle ever.
