Subject description: A WIP recreation of Medalmonkey's shock trooper.

I remember wishing that Medalmonkey would finish and release his version, but given that he doesn't seem to be very active anymore that seems highly unlikely. Therefore, I decided that given it's a mostly a copy-paste job, I might give it a shot myself. It does take plenty of time, and I don't know how I'll get through some of the later frames, but it does seem achievable with time. I wouldn't normally want to make a post for a simple WIP given I might abandon the project later, like tomorrow, but I figured some feedback would help.

Good luck with it. Please make sure shadows won't use 63, but proper 12 in the final SHP.

Since I'm not editing the shadow, that shouldn't be a problem but I will keep it in mind. (Unless there is some reason to edit it, but I don't see much of one at the moment.)

I liked it, but looks more like an flame trooper with that backpack, it just don't feel safe to carry an portable tesla coil without any protection #Tongue, nice work man.  Very Happy

Well I've finished the remaining walking frames. I attached an animation below (obviously in the same stop-walk-stop way).

Also, I figured what I'd do differently if it was a flamethrower, which I might try in the future.

My only gripe with using the Chrono Backpack is with it being engraved in my memory so much that its a Chrono Backpack.

Otherwise I'd probably prefer him using the 2 Tanks. When firing the backpack could probably be generating sparks (could just do this by hand in SHP Builder)

If you look at Medalmonkey's version, it looks like he recolored the backpack a little to make it more greyish. I might do this as well once I finish the SHP since such a color change can be done easier in SHP builder then in GIMP.

That spark idea is interesting though. I might be able to do that pretty easily while making the firing animation.

Finished the idle frames. I thought it would be nice to change it up an make a new idle, even though it's not changed much from what the conscript does.

(Again, double post to update the thread since I don't think edits do that.)

After lots of finagling I finally got a somewhat acceptable crawling frame sequence for one facing. The chrono commando and rocketeer crawling frames leave much to be desired. So I used the pack from one of the chrono commando's to-prone frames and a reversed rocket set from the rocketeer's crawling south-facing. I'm still not so sure of the quality but it would probably be better then no crawling frames, even if that is possible to code.

I meant to be working on this more than I have. Unfortunately I've changed locations, looking after my sister's place while she's on a trip for school, so it's been affecting my typical routine that I would be taking on my summer break. Anyhow I did get two more sets of crawling frames done though, I fixed up the original one a bit too. I'll be adjusting the west frames here as well though so they aren't final.

Although in addition, I've been playing around with making a white parachute animation. Kind of like Red Alert 1, but I might make shaded ones after the initial one is finished. This is kind of low priority though in comparison to the shock trooper so I may never finish it. Here's a bit of preview, the last frame isn't a standard parachute frame though, it's the beginning of a sort of puffing and expansion before the parachute settles. (Check out the original animation, the chute expands after deployment before settling into the form it is in for the majority of the animation.)

Incidentally, I'm going to add an addendum to the original post. I would not like this project to die like Medalmonkey's so if I haven't updated this thread in a month or so, PM me. I'll hand over the xcf files (GIMP's file format) and give a brief explanation in case you want to continue the project. I don't plan for such a thing to happen, but I'd hate to put someone in the same position that I was in when I began this project.

Sorry for the late response. My modding interest comes and goes so I haven't kept up with things on here.

The answer is no, it has not. I still have all the source files though if you want them though. In addition, MetalMonkey has given me a nudge to try and go back and finish it. I'm currently busy messing around with a private Tiberian Sun mod though so no promises.
