Desolators were the indigenous super soldiers of the Iraqi Army, men bound to heavy radiation suits lugging massive Ray Guns that they use to quickly vaporise infantry and tanks, as well as irradiating the environment. It was a weapon designed to put otherwise disposable nuclear waste to good use in what has to be a rather environmentally unfriendly way of recycling. With Iraq now under Chimera control, Desolators were incorporated into their army and improved upon by the Viper Cell, the Chimera's chemical weapons research and development division. While they barely look any different when compared to their predecessors, the new Desolators received a number of upgrades, mainly a reworked Ray Gun which can increase it's range in order to fire upon aircraft. Said weapon can now deal some minor damage to buildings, making Desolators essentially all-purpose assaulters. Of course the weapon's ability to irradiate the ground had to be removed in exchange for these new features. Hardened Desolators usually get upgrades to their equipment, such as increased gamma radiation levels in their Ray Guns resulting in higher damage output in addition to it's tendency to irradiate the impact area, making them all the more dangerous.
