GGO just came out... What are your thoughts about episode 1? I personally haven't seen it because I'm waiting for my friend... we said we would watch it together so yeah.... QUICK_EDIT
For example... no TV Channel would play something like an obvious Hentai Animation on public. Cumshot, vaginal shots, etc.
If it was something like just showing bare skin or titillation of course it'll be ecchi. But when it involves a sex scene thats downright comprised of half the air-time that'll be hentai or pornography.
Queen's Blade & Manyuu Hikenchou are animes that play up to the fanservice area. _________________ ~ Excelsior ~ QUICK_EDIT
*is still mad that no one is watching black bullet*
However, in japan, I was watching an anime and lets say that it just happened to be on the TV, broadcasting... idk but apparently in Japan that's acceptable. QUICK_EDIT
I actually did watch Black Bullet (took me two days to finish).
it is a good anime, IMO, though I would have prefered ... for him to fall into despair and darkness, seeking for revenge, allying with Kuro _________________

I've been dadling on my anime watching, because there has not been much that catches my interest anymore. i only finished three shows this year, Unawanamono, Gundam Build Fighters and Fate/Zero. I'm slowly getting at my backlog.
I'll be starting Steins;gate within the week, maybe I'll power that sooner. _________________ I am Zengar Zombolt, The Sword That Cleaves Evil! There is Nothing I can not Cut! QUICK_EDIT

They're damn near porn without being porn. QB is actually pretty good though. I rather enjoy it for more than just the tits. Then again, I don't hardly watch anything new anymore. I'm more of a connoisseur of 80s and 90s anime. _________________ Discord: princess_marisa

I really like Steins;Gate (one of my favourites), albeit it is somewhat slow.
Even if it looks boring at first, get to Episode 12 before canceling it - trust me, it's worth it _________________

Not exactly true. Mostly, it's a premise where one male character has a bunch of girls around him, usually vying for his attention. _________________ QUICK_EDIT
dunno if it's just my perception, but rather than tits and fanservice i want to see different worlds, settings and old animes in general seem to be relatively free with their setting and the fantasy aspect and the boundaries they broke when it comes to tone, design decisions and character art and their story direction
five star stories is a neat example of batshit crazy stuff which looks cool and makes up a neat alternate reality to get into.
Also i dunno, the production technique looks aesthetically much more "alive" to me.
first time i saw patlabor 2 i was in awe of the details and fluid animation quality of those details. _________________ Hydraw Art on Facebook QUICK_EDIT
Man Patlabor is amazing. It is incredibly underrated as a mecha series. The characters are all so interesting without having to resort to being constantly comical. _________________ You come for the modding but you stay for the Crap Forum. QUICK_EDIT
I don't like Mecha in general. There are only a couple of Mecha Animes I actually enjoyed (for example Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch).
If there are Mechas, they have to be just another unit, some kind of upgraded tank, not a single super thing which destroys world and can only be beaten by another super Mecha and so on.
And I have the feeling that for the most part, old Animes tend to have Mechas :-/ _________________

Patlabor is like that. It treats mecha as everyday objects and part of life used in construction and military fields. The whole show revolves around labor (their word for mechs) police unit that has to stop the occasional criminal piloting a construction robot for less than savory deeds. Its neat cause there are a lot of "practical" mech concepts used in the show, like trailers to transport them to various places, etc. Quite interesting. _________________ You come for the modding but you stay for the Crap Forum. thats a misconception, sure there are a lot of these, but you'll find a lot of what you described in for example, Some older gundam OVAS's, Bubblegum Crisis, Patlabor, and so on, tho i'm not a fan of gode geass....i tried to get into it but the whole thing is far too icky to me.
this is more like it, it's from Gundam 0080: War in the pocket, and it's pretty dark. _________________ Hydraw Art on Facebook QUICK_EDIT
Nice, haven't been able to get into the stupidness of Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ but this looks very nice! I like the fact that it's darker and more serious.
Not a bunch of annoying unreasonable kids like Zeta.
I'll check this out, along with Patlabor. QUICK_EDIT

Well then there is a handy designation that may help.
The Super machine fighting all the baddies with no peer is a 'Super Robot" Like Getter Robo, Gurren Lagann and so on.
More grounded stories with equal forces, and more drama focused are "Real Robots" Witch include Code Geass R1, Much of Gundam and Patlabor( a fan favorite here.)
You can have Blendings of the two types, Famously(or infamously) You have Neon Genisis Evangelion, and more recently Code Geass R2(you tell me the Lancelot Albion and Gurren Eight Elements was not overpowered beyond peer)
For a more grounded mecha story, you may want to check out one of my Favorites, Gundam The 08th MS Team with a squad of normal soldiers using Mook mechs with Jungle warfare. _________________ I am Zengar Zombolt, The Sword That Cleaves Evil! There is Nothing I can not Cut! QUICK_EDIT

just finished the 8th MS team, was awesome, however i don't like the last 2 episodes as much, the style and tone changed too much. _________________ Hydraw Art on Facebook QUICK_EDIT

Well, there is a good reason for that, the Director of the series actually died part way in making it. It caused a year long delay in the middle of the release scheduled. You can start seeing the tone change even before the last two eps if you do.
Well, yeah.
The second episode was somewhat ... dunno, missing development? You have practically seen one fight and that was it xD _________________

I guess I'm an outsider on all this, not being anime acolyte, but could someone explain something for me? Bit of a leadup because I'm not totally sure how to articulate it...
I watched Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood with my girlfriend because it was one of her favourite things. I guess I enjoyed it, but it did seem to have a problem common to a lot of anime: an inability to set meaningful rules. I feel like a lot of storytelling in anime begins with really interesting and cool ideas but doesn't build strong or strict enough rules around them.
I personally prefer when the rules of a fictional world are clearly explained and then strictly adhered to. Then I can gauge the power of the adversary or predict solutions. All to frequently it seems like shit is going down and then *poof* magic happens and our heroes are safe from harm. I don't have a problem with the *poof*: safety thing except it always reeks of deus ex machina. it's especially irritating in the grand finale where our hero is defeated by the arch villain and then *poof* magic happens and the world is saved.
In Fullmetal Alchemist, for example, I called the nationwide circle about 6 episodes in because it seemed like a logical extension of the rules which had been explained. However, things like the giant black space door and the solution to Ed's final predicament baffled me because they didn't conform to the rules and they didn't explain why they didn't conform to the rules.
What are some anime which set up their rules and then stick to them unflinchingly? Because my perception of this rule bending irks me and really prevents me from getting into anime as a genre. QUICK_EDIT
Hey Orac, There's this beautiful thing in anime that can interfere with everything. it's called plot.
Plot can save lives, it can make the story completely different as to what you were to expect, it can make a character that was dead be revived, plot can also be used to allow things that would otherwise seem just outright unimaginable.
For example, in SAO(Which was the reason this thread started) there was a thing that people call Plot Armour (just a commonly used term). It pretty much allowed the protagonist to almost die a ridiculous amount of times, however, at the last second, he doesn't die.
Now, Plot Armour is used in about every major anime in existence. The main character just can't die, and as a result, the main character survives and even if they are as dumb as a doorknob, can work their way out of situations that would be otherwise deadly or series ending.
That's pretty much all I have to say about that.
IN OTHER NEWS
So I recently watched Angel Beats...
That was just feels.
ztyping.
Everywhere.
You literally couldn't step an inch at the end of that without stepping on a feels-mine.
However, this as well:

DAFUQ IS THIS? also, how do you fix this? QUICK_EDIT
No, You need set up before you can plot away established norms. As someone who suffered though bad plots and asspulls, You can't just say plot.
Now I'm having Gundam Seed Destiny Flashbacks.
As for Orac, Try the first FMA anime, as it takes the time in the begining to set the world up. It was made before the story ended, so it has a different ending that FMA:B. That may help fill in the gaps. _________________ I am Zengar Zombolt, The Sword That Cleaves Evil! There is Nothing I can not Cut! QUICK_EDIT
IIRC, FMA similar strange, with a door summoned between worlds and stuff.
I actually am on Orac's side on this. I hate inconsitency, and it is a major reason I dislike the 'typical' shounen Anime like Bleach, Fairy Tail, ...
Depending how you define rules, there are some Animes which conform to their own rules. For example Death Note, while the Death Note itself is a ridiculous overpowered item in itself, though the rules aren't changing.
If you have a problem with illogical things, the most part of Animes can be disregarded, if you only have a problem with consistency, there are a few out there...
(@gistop: In SAO he does not get nearly killed every second o.O I can remember just one moment where he was near death and should have died) _________________

maybe take a look at "now and then, here and there" , it has the strict world you want and doesn'T use any sort of deus ex machina, in fact it's pretty much down to reality in your fictional world. _________________ Hydraw Art on Facebook QUICK_EDIT
Are you going to offhandedly suggest that? It is a ruff show, not for the faint of heart. I mean Graveyard of the Fireflys ruff.
If you watch that, prepare, it gets dark. _________________ I am Zengar Zombolt, The Sword That Cleaves Evil! There is Nothing I can not Cut! QUICK_EDIT

On the other hand, I've begun to do some writing (mostly fanfic stuff) but nothing good has come out of it. Really need to improve on detail description. QUICK_EDIT

I'd just like to point out right now that they are releasing an Angel Beats! TCG... after several (3-4 I think) years of the release of the anime or the light novels and/or manga.... QUICK_EDIT

i love genocyber, in fact i love a lot of koichi ohatas stuff, even M.D.Geist I and II.
but good old bubblegum crisis will always have a special place in my heart, in fact even the AD Police spinoff is really cool. This is bringing cyberpunk with the 80's and cool mechanical design together.
I'd just like to point out right now that they are releasing an Angel Beats! TCG...
TCG? Trading Card Game?
