I am still hoping to create a directory of and content information network for the current C&C community (at least the old school parts of it).
Part of the idea is not just to say "this mod exists" or "this site has SHPs", but to offer the relevant piece(s) of content as independent entities through the network.
e.g. if I searched for "Ares", I would get multiple results: The Ares site and a representation of Ares the software - a piece of data telling me what kind of C&C application it is, under what circumstances it can be used, and where to download it (the direct link to the file).
While planning this, I ran into a simple and yet not easily answered question: What are the community-relevant types of sites and data?
So far, I've got the following:
- Site
- Service Provider (Hosters, CnCNet, C&C Online)
- General/News (sites like C&C NZ is or the DENs used to be)
- Mod (the site of a mod, independent from the actual software)
- Forum
- Reference/Tutorial (e.g. ModEnc)
- Asset library (e.g. Editing Sources, YR Arg)
- Service Provider (Hosters, CnCNet, C&C Online)
- Application
- Tool
- Game/Management (e.g. LaunchBase, Playlist Manager)
- Asset creation (e.g. voxel-, SHP-, map editors)
- Mod creation (e.g. XCC tools, UMP)
- Game/Management (e.g. LaunchBase, Playlist Manager)
- Mod (the software itself)
- Patch (RockPatch, NPatch, Ares and all their cousins)
- Tool
- Asset
- Voxel
- SHP
- Map
- Voxel
Are there any other types I should handle?
