No Internet

After a lightning storm my pc can't connect to the internet, it for some reason when connected to the phoneline makes it go dead, yet the modem is alive, it can dial (and b heard on the phone) but the line is dead when my modem is connected to the phone line. It even responds to the query modem thing in the control panel.

Since its a mistory to what is actualy screwed i have no clue how long i will b without the net (tho i might b able to post occasionaly on my dad's pc which works).

To Banshee:

I should b able to uplaod the BS SHP Builder code here(PPM) sometime. Since the pc works i can (if im not feeling depresed by the fact i can't go online n chat to friends) still work on BS SHP Builder.

Dang.. anyway, my suggestions is to remove the modem, turn on the pc without the modem, then shut it down. Then plug the modem again and reinstall it... Here phone lines are in the underground, which avoids problems like this, but when something crazy happens to phone lines, this kind of solution works... or... wait a technician of the phone line appear and fix it...

Try moving your PC to another room and trying from a different phone jack. Does a phone work when connected to that phone jack?

Its definatly the modem, swiched i for my dads old pc's modem, but, then the sound is fucked, no clue why but his old modem screws the sound up (remove his card n it magicaly works).

So i chose sound over internet, which means ill need to buy a new modem(same modem).

Which just measn by "comeback" will b delayed.

Max time im guessing 2 weeks.

Stu... try uninstalling and reinstalling your modem as I said before buying a new one. My phone line didnt had problems with lightning storms, but sometimes, when phone signal fucks up when modem is online, it may cause problems like this and I always fixed that by uninstalling and reinstalling the modem... Good luck anyway.

Check for conflicting IRQs, DMAs, I/O ranges, and memory ranges.

something is conflicting eather drivers or IRQ or soemthing. One day when i can b arsed ill shove the old modem back in and downlaod the latest drivers, etc.

Got a new modem today, 39.99 pounds it cost i think. Works perfectly fine with no conflicts. BS SHP Builder should now progress.
