Which program do you use to open and convert the RA3 3d-models into 3ds format?
Do you see the 3d-model textured when you open it in your 3d program?
If the 3d model isn't shown textured, then of course the converted vxl won't have textures as well.

What fileformat do the RA3 textures have? Is it an image format 3ds2vxl understands?

When converting 3ds files into vxl, make sure the 3ds and the texture are both present in the same folder.


@ViPr: Which image formats for the textures can be used in 3ds2vxl? PNG, BMP, TGA, JPG?

Where can i find the latest version of 3ds2vxl? Your site seems down and i'm not sure if the one in the Modding Tools topic is really the latest. This was the only version which i could find when i edited/fixed the Modding Tools topic.

It could be useful if you create a 3ds2vxl topic in the CnC Editing Tools forum and upload there the really latest and complete 3ds2vxl. So we can have it from the creator first hand and not mirrored/copied from other people who have found it somewhere.

I used Gmax,and ı have textures jpg format .And I try convert voxels now with textures.

Edit:Converted with texture,need to regulate just a little more

first import the bone, the *SKL
then the skin, *SKN

when you import animation, first select bone then select animation file

I read before this steps your post,but giving same error sir.I exported skl and skn in gmax with nonprobleam but I'cant same way in max.I cant export skl and skn files in max.

I can only have export obj file,I imported obj file in max and ABTA animation but model doesnt move.

I know it works with Autodesk 3dsmax 8 & 9, don't think any later versions do. Note that 3dsmax 9 is not same as 2009 (which is technically v. 11).

3DS2VXL hasn't been updated for ages now. The latest one, publically available, had been packaged by IcySon55 with the required DLL files and his edit of my GUI.

All the picture formats, that are supported by SDL_image, should work in 3DS2VXL, except for BMP and TGA, which have problems in some cases, as mentioned in the readme, because 3DS2VXL does not use SDL_image for them. So, don't use 8-bit colour palettes with those 2 files, and don't use run length encoding for BMP files.

I had no idea that IcySon55 left the community. I don't know who suraj_geddam98 is although I saw this post ages ago. I don't know if he has malicious intentions. I do not know how to verify that the package he uploaded is not malicious. However, I also do no know IcySon55 very well either. Also, all of you don't know me very well either. I can't check the version numbers right now because my life is a big mess right now. If I can sort out my life, then I could go back to working on my program, although I don't see that there is something that really needs to be done with it.

I think a clue for determining if it's the latest publically available version is if on the GUI, something that is meant to say "Model Scaler" instead says "Model Scalar". IcySon55 insisted on changing that despite what I said. However, unfortunately, I think he made this GUI edit on more than one version. So, I don't know if it is the latest. Maybe if it requires the DLL files then it might be the latest because I think that was a quite recent development although I'm not sure.

Someone needs to tell me the version number, and then later, I will check my files, in a few hours, to see if I can get better clues.

By the way, I'm quite surprised by the download number.

If there is a letter after that number, then that's probably the version of IcySon55 which is just my version with the GUI hacked a little by him. He didn't like my GUI.

IcySon55 didn't like anything anyone else made but him, so I'm not surprised. Same reason he wanted scalar instead of scaler, despite it being 2 different words.
