A new year has come, and it starts with the release of Ares 0.A, the latest version of the expansion dll for Yuri's Revenge!

Last year had only a single release, the ill-fated Ares 0.9. It was not bad in itself, just the experience I had with it was not as good as it should have been in my opinion. Anyhow, for this release cycle I was very much pleased with all the testing that happened in the last few months. Thank You all who participated to make this possible!

I'm sure you know what Ares 0.A has to offer (if not, the announcement at LaunchPad is a start), so I concentrate on the non-obvious internal bits: Ares 0.A is the most efficient release yet, with many improvements to older features and several changes to the internal structure. This means, Ares is more compact, and has a lower memory footprint than the last versions. All these optimizations sum up so Ares 0.A has an observable positive effect on game speed (compared to the previous versions).

All in all an inconspicuous release, but under the covers it's a piece of software i'm quite proud of.

AlexB, why was the version called as 0.A instead of 0.10? Also any attempts of trying adding in save games ingame?

For maths, 0.1 = 0.10. And yea, 0.1 was released eons ago. So, in order to differ it, he is using 'hex numbers'.

Right. 1.0 is a big step forward. Maybe not if you think of 0.9 as 90% of 1.0, but for version numbers it makes a difference. I think a few features are missing for that still.

The next release will also use the same naming: 0.B will add a few of the missing things, and it shouldn't take three months to get there. Maybe two if we are quick. After 0.B, .... who knows. At least I have no plan yet for a 0.C.

Version Numbers aren't Decimal fractions, 10 and other 2 or more digit numbers are usable in them. (Minecraft PE for example, its lastest version is 0.13.1.) And Decimal mark is not .(dot) it is ,(comma)(at lest for here.) I'm not sure why AlexB really used A istead of 10 but it looks and sounds better imo.

Yeah, that's true. Technically it's 0.10 (which actually is the internal product version number), but who would spell that Zero point Ten?

Also I know a lot of projects which used .10 subversions above .9 but I guess this is much more straightforward to some.
