Umm... just change Shroud=no in the [MultiplayerDialogSettings] section.

I was under the impression that shroud controls didn't work or is that just ShroudGrow=?

EDIT: I was mistaken, it was ShadowGrow, though ShroudGrow= stops working as soon as it has processed shrouding the entire map. Either way Shroud=no works just fine.

You can add a new trigger in a map and make the trigger reveal the entire map at the start. Here are the INIs (Copied from a Game Option's INI):

[Events]
RevealOption=1,8,0,0

[Actions]
RevealOption=1,16,0,0,0,0,0,0,A

[Tags]
RevealOptionTag=0,Reveal 1,RevealOption

[Triggers]
RevealOption=Neutral,<none>,Reveal,0,1,1,1,0

PostPosted: Tue Jun 03, 2025 11:44 pm    Post subject: here is how you can remove the shroud from RA2 & Yuri's revenge Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

First, search for a YouTube video named:
"Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge Modding Tutorial | Introduction and Tools"

Uploaded by a channel named:
"Fortune's Chaos"

-------------------------------------------

In the video: learn how to extract the "rulesmd.ini" file.

NOTE 1:
you can't extract it anywhere you want. I put it in the "documents" folder (windows), and it worked for me.

NOTE 2:
the file "rulesmd.ini" is for Yuri's Revenge, and "rules.ini" is for RA2.
you can find them in "ra2md.mix" & "ra2.mix".
(you'll understand more after watching the YouTube video I mentioned)

--------------------------------------

After you extract the "rulesmd.ini" file, open it with the text editor app "Notepad++"
(download it if you don't have it)

and search for this text: "Shroud=yes" (you will find it on line number 3031)

replace the "yes" with "no".
it should look like this: "Shroud=no".

Then save the file.

As a last step: copy the "rulesmd.ini" file you just edited, and paste it in the main game folder.
(for example:"C:\Program Files\Red.Alert.2.Yuris.Revenge")

AND YOU'RE ALL DONE.
No more shroud, only pure fun.

------------------------------------------
To all players:
Be nice to people on the internet. I was looking for this solution for days, and people are only saying unclear words. Help who ask for it.
I really hoped someone helped me like I'm doing to you guys right now.

-------------------- IMPORTANT -------------------

Keep in mind if you wanna play campaign missions:
removing the shroud completely (like we did in this method) can cause some in-game problems, such as:
- parashoot not appearing (units in parashoot looks like they're flying).
- soviet rockets ship: the rocket's smock is not appearing.
- some game mechanics will break:
the game uses triggers that relay on shroud removal by player. the game know you reached a specific area on the map by tracking if the shroud in the area was removed or not. that lets the game make video & sound & gameplay events depending on your moves (shroud triggers). BUT, with the shroud completely removed, we brock all of these triggers.

for example: remove the shroud & try to reach the two rocketeers at the bottom left of the map in the 2nd mission of the allied campaign (RA2). they'll not be obtained even if you reach them, cuz that's a shroud trigger.

So, How to solve that?
the only way is to edit the "shroud.shp" file or create a new one with a light gray transparent png (or just make it completely transparent, so it can't even be seen, but still technically there) that'll make the shroud transparent without removing it completely (as I know).
but when I do that, something always goes wrong:
once I enter a game, and the shroud gets in one of my unit's eyesight; the game stops and gives an error message saying that the game files is not correct.
(and the shroud isn't even transparent, it's looks removed, with the in-shroud areas being brighter than the discovered areas)
So...

------------- CAN SOMEONE SOLVE THAT? -------------

I always hated the shroud or fog of war and removed it from every game that has it.

As if on the battlefield, no one can see a 100 feet in front of them Rolling Eyes

Scaling in Ra2 is complicated.

Tanks shoot 6 cells, but you have low lying units with higher slight values, and dogs that sense farther. You have helicopters that fly as fast as transonic jets, and crawling drones that can reach places faster than them still. You have Snipers who shoot farther than surface-to-air missiles and battleships.

So yeah, 100ft could mean ANYTHING in this game.
