WATCH IF BORED:
- Deus: The Dark Sphere
- The Red Book Rituals
- The Runner
- The Innocents (NO)
WATCH:
- Emily the Criminal
- Three Thousand Years of Longing
- The Enforcer
- Bandit
- Bullet Train
I'd note that Deus started out interesting, it had a lot of the usual space exploration vibes, but it fell flat for me. It was like Event Horizon, but if Hell was replaced by a Hoax. The drama and most of the plot was actually quite subdued, and all of it felt lacking any sort of weight. All the fundamental questions posed by the story were glossed over, and the big internal debates were no more significant than a mild headache.
By contrast, Emily was a decent movie that was also slow, for the simple reason that all the drama seemed to matter, all the challenges were looming, all the failures immediate. Even with such a simple story, and sedate acting, it was still engaging, even unpredictable at times.
TTYoL kinda makes the list, they did inject some woke crap and the usual tropes of accusing white people of shit, they even had a couple scenes with Tilda wearing a face diaper hah! It was more an interesting movie than a good movie. _________________ http://www.moddb.com/mods/scorched-earth-ra2-mod-with-smart-ai QUICK_EDIT
WATCH:
Reptile
Gran Turismo
The Moon (KR)
Equalizer 3
Hypnotic
Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning
Sympathy for the Devil
WATCHINGS OF BOREDOM:
Confidential Informant
No One Will Save You
Pain Hustlers
STRAIGHT TO TRASH:
57 Seconds
Caveat: Pain Hustlers is a marginal case, it's like a poor man's Wolf of Wall st. not bad by any means and has good moments. It's failing is that it just isn't fulfilling, with no real climax. I liked it overall, but it's entirely forgetable. _________________ http://www.moddb.com/mods/scorched-earth-ra2-mod-with-smart-ai QUICK_EDIT
Not so many new ones this time, catching up on some older films I missed in between, but as I stated in the beginning, this is for relatively new movies. I figure a rolling 3yrs is a good cutoff.
WATCH:
The Creator
The Killer
The Empty Man
The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Dream Scenario
Oppenheimer (just barely makes the list)
The Burial (just barely makes the list)
I do want to make a comment about Rebel Moon, it feels like watching video game cutscenes most of the time, with some scenes feeling more like a high quality TV episode. The acting was bland, and the cinematics were frankly terrible; they made everything feel small and personal, all the shots zoomed into just the main character, so you couldn't even get a sense of how large a room is usually. Plus the protaginist girl seems to be in 70% of the shots as the central focus, making the other 6 main characters more like cameos. I won't even get started on the invincible girl-boss trope going on.... _________________ http://www.moddb.com/mods/scorched-earth-ra2-mod-with-smart-ai QUICK_EDIT
Today's list is in a weird categoty between WATCH-IF-BORED as in you'd never to out of your way for it, and WATCH as in you'd thoroughly enjoy it.
ARMOR - not terribly objectionable, waste of talent, nothing happens
VENOM The Last Dance - 1/3 repetitive/derivative, 1/3 nostalgia, 1/3 cringe and boring
SLINGSHOT - interesting, but nothing much happens except flashbacks
TRANSFORMERS ONE - breaks the live action movies canon (if there is any?), rather childish and uninspired
