Subject description: Anyone looked into?

For some time now I've been looking into starting a patreon page for The Second Tiberium War. There are a few concerns when doing something like this is wanting to ask if anyone else had looked into it.

I haven't contacted EA directly but have seen examples on their policy of using patreon to aid in costs for artists that mod their games. One big example is The Sims as many people have been using patreon with their mods and addons and this is what EA had to say about it:

SimGuruDrake: "Good morning folks! So I've been alerted to this thread by the mods and wanted to provide some insight here on two points of discussion: CC/Mods locked behind a paywall and Patreon.

CC/Mods Locked Behind Paywalls - Creators cannot lock content they make using our game behind a paywall. While we do not police this content (there is no way we would create a team simply to monitor this) we do take reports sent to us seriously and action accordingly.

Patreon - We understand that folks who make CC / Mods for others to enjoy are doing it in their free time and may desire to offset costs to create the content by using this service. As long as the content is still made available FOR FREE we do not mind these types of pages. Folks who have a Patreon page are welcome to provide folks with "early access" incentives for their content but it should be made available to the general public within 2-3 weeks of it being given to folks early."

Now that is the sims not Command & Conquer, but I would think Tiberian Sun wouldn't be an issue since it's old and freeware. There is also the issue that many modders use community content such as the Tiberian Sun Client and would need permission to do so.

Another issue is that many Tiberian Sun Mods are using the TS Client and would need permission from Rampastring/team to do that. Again nothing is behind a paywall so I see no reason why not. What do you think?

Tiberian Sun might be "old and freeware", but its still an Electronic Arts IP, like all other C&C titles.

What the C&C community produces as modifications for TibSun, RA2, Renegade etc should only ever been seen as something you do in your free time and at your own expense.

Unless you want to spend your free time developing a new IP/Game tile and/or franchise, with original assets and not based off any other IP/content, and on an engine that allows licensing (be proprietary or open source) anything like GoFundMe or Patreon is just punching above your weight.

Also, I don't see why this is in the Editing Forum...

Yeah it should be in the other forums sorry.

I am looking at it from the standpoint of Donations or support, not pay me so I can make it else I won't.

I've moved the topic to PPM Discussion Zone.

Anyway, what SimGuruDrake is what we apply here. If you wanna  get funding with Patreon, it is ok, as long as your work is released for free for everyone. Otherwise, you are selling mods... and that's a big no.

I've been seriously thinking about setting up such a funding site myself...

The point here is that people would pay you to produce content, either just supporting you doing that, or paying for specific items, which is all valid and legal from every standpoint. As long as you aren't selling the mod or selling any intellectual property (including your own), you aren't going to get any flak.
