So I've gotten to the point where I need to add some fresh new sound effects for my superweapons etc. I've stitched together a few EVA sounds at what audacity tells me are the correct settings (22050hz/16 bit) and converted them to .aud, before finally sticking them in my sound and speech MIXs. Unfortunately it appears that even with the file (with a less than 8 character file name) stuck in all relevant MIXs and in sound01.ini, it's still not working. Any ideas? (Yes I have used the search feature and tried everything that came up.)

when played, the audio is completely corrupt. It stutters, has breaks, and has clipping due to going above the possible volume

the biggest problem however is, that it's not normalized. Thus start and end are not at 0.0.
Make the curve centered, make sure start and end are exactly at 0.0. You can first use Audacity's Effect/Normalize and then use Fade In and Fade out in audacity to do make start/end at 0.0
Though the audio curve is going up and down a lot, which is kind of strange. So i'd say you better create the sound again, since fixing it would probably take more time.
It seems you also reduced the audio quality at one point to such a low setting that it's now having a much worse quality than any other sound in the game.

i've converted the aud back to wav and attached the wav file. It shows the problems (clicking, clipping, noise) very well when played in any audio player.

The file was assembled from the files 00-i158 and 00-n098. These, from the files I have on hand, are indeed a bit low quality. I'm not sure if it's just that the files are originally poor quality or if XCC somehow messed up while extracting. Another thing is that I had to use an older version of mixer (1.44) to properly copy as AUD because for some reason the newest version didn't want to do it. I'll try to redo the file and see how it turns out.

(Edit : I've redone the file, a good chunk of the artifacting is still there. I think it might just be because of the source files. The recommended measures have been applied. Link to new version : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1O0Z7pbwZbmW7RaD0R_BR4agWaAVMRrVk/view?usp=sharing)
