[TS] Voxel assets from TS: Forgotten Wars
Subject description: Before I forget...
My aim with making the Forgotten Wars mod was to use it as a means of sharing art - but I realise now that finishing the mod is still going to take a while (yay solo projects!), and dumping the art here in the meantime is probably faster.
The following units from Forgotten Wars can be downloaded here:
This unit uses a combination of:
- .SHP file to get the Titan legs
- voxel file for the barrel, which in this case is made to look like a Mech torso
- by keeping the legs and changing up the voxel design, you can now make almost any Mech design just by changing the voxel
Isn't it looking strange when the entire turret tilts up/down when changing between near and far targets? _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings
It looks a little bit unusual, at some angles, but most of the times it is rather minor. Just looks like the torso is tilting at the hips (for the Javelin, being a support unit, it has a minimum range of around 4-5, so it never has to "tilt down" to shoot units at point-blank range). The same way a real-world MLRS would elevate or depress its launchers depending on how far or near the target is, I guess.
I'm not going to pretend that this is an "awesome" way of doing a mech in TS - but for those of us that cannot model and render and capture hundreds of frames to make custom .SHP units, it offers a simple way to make new mechs in terms of needing only a VXL editor. Call it the "Simple Man's" solution
(bonus points: in terms of visual aesthetics, it gives you something that already looks perfectly "GDI" next to the Titan and Juggernaut, so your overall faction aesthetics are mostly preserved depending on how well you do the voxel torso) _________________ Adapt or die QUICK_EDIT
Update on the Javelin, and the "tilting barrel" issue you get with a .SHP unit using a voxel barrel:
When armed with homing missiles (e.g. HoverMissile from the Hover MLRS), the barrel of the unit - in this case, the Mech upper torso - will not tilt up or down UNLESS firing at absolute maximum or absolute minimum ranges. However, if you give it a weapon that has an Arcing=yes projectile - e.g. the Tick 90mm cannon - then the barrel (torso) will tilt up or down according to the range that the target is at.
So the "issue" here, with the torso tilting, can be effectively minimized through a clever choice of weapons, it seems. _________________ Adapt or die QUICK_EDIT
