Is there a program that shows you where the error in your rules code or other files is coming from ?

I know that Homeworld 2 was able to do this, and I think Generals was able to do this.

I was editing my Rulemd file and fell asleep. When I woke up I accidentally saved it and then after a while started the game, and it would freeze on the loading screen.

I removed the rules and the game starts, so I can only think that I rolled on the mouse while asleep or the keyboard, dropping some text onto the file, and now It's hard going through the file trying to locate what shouldn't be there.
