Any organism that's born early in the development process, like humans and other primates, needs a strong social structure to teach the things that they don't get though instinct like other animals. Humans have virtually no instincts at all because we're born too early in the development process. Monkeys and such would use a tribal system, where every member of the tribe is responsible for teaching something to the young: one person teaches about war, the other about sex, the next about how to fish for termites with a stick, etc. Just because they don't have schools doesn't mean other animals don't have an education system.
