Reinforcements have arrived from Notepad++ as Notepad++ 8.5 has been recently released by their team. Notepad++ is a free and open-source code editor and Notepad replacement that runs on Windows. It supports several programming languages, multiple tabs, plugins, and is based on the powerful editing component Scintilla. Here is the change log from Notepad++ 8.5:

  • Fix notepad replacement opening file name containing white space regression.
  • Fix regression about visual glitch of Find in Files progress window & Document Switcher.
  • Update to Scintilla 5.3.3 and Lexilla 5.2.2.
  • Add new explorer context menu entry “Edit with Notepad++” for WINDOWS 11.
  • Add show non-printable characters command.
  • Apply tab colors to document list items and add groups to the document list.
  • Add middle mouse click ability to close doc in Document List.
  • Add Begin/End Select in Column Mode command.
  • Add option to make auto-completion list brief.
  • Remove duplicate items in the function/word list of Auto-completion.
  • Fix missing items in the word autocomplete.
  • Fix autocomplete to sort the case-insensitive issues.
  • Change behavior: make Select and Find (Next/Previous) always in normal search mode.
  • Change behavior: make volatile Find uses least-strict option settings.
  • Change behavior: Don’t populate in Find what if a stream selection is more than 1024 characters.
  • Fix wrong value set in Preferences->Performance->"Define Large File Size".
  • Fix untitled document number jumping or repeated problems.
  • Fix dock-able panels not restoring for mono instances when Notepad++ is in the tray.
  • Fix panels not restored from the system tray with "Edit with Notepad++" in admin mode.
  • Fix hit text in search results not being scrolled in the view issue.
  • Add new notification NPPN_EXTERNALLEXERBUFFER for the lexer plugin with buffer ID when a new lexer is applied to the buffer in question.
  • Fix Synch H/V Scrolling commands not syncing with 2 views.
  • Add several GUI enhancements.
  • Make several GUI items translatable.
