I am saddened today to post this,but...the United States is retiring the Fairchild Republic A10-A Thunderbolt. Yes. the GDI/Nod(Nod had them,too...) Airstrike plane. im sure we all rember them burning down civvie buildings, our bases, and our tanks. lest we rember the Fairchild Republic A-10!

The A-10's replacement. the YF-35 JSF(Joint Strike Fighter)

In Real life it used Missiles and a cannon, It was a nice solid baby, with ALOT of firepower, but in dogfights it was poor. I always liked the plane though

RIP

You can just mod one of the YF-22 voxels... the irony is that the Apache is also being phased out*(i belive),whereas the Soviet MiG is top-of-the line in Russian/Soviet jets nowadays.

*RAH-66 Comanche will take it's place,or give the apache a smaller role in combat.

It's always one person who spoils it for everyone else. I think it may have been a bad idea to allow guest posting, considering the immaturity of some people out there.

They never had it in TD. It was never in the missions for them, and only available for GDI once all SAM sites were destroyed on the level.

The A-10 Warthog made for infantry support, the first of it's kind. equipted with a high volocity chain gun that could shread USSR tanks like a hot knife trough butter as well as an arrangement of bombs to missles. I perdict that this airplane will not be forgoten for a long long time

edited- yes the apache is going in the history books to being replaced by the commanche a stealth helicopter

I hope that US will not forget about their allies.
Some countries would be glad to have some of this obsolete equipment in their army...

The A-10 is extremely luckier than other planes-it has been flying since 1972. Most planes don't last more than 20 years.

Anyway, the F-35 JSF ain't that odd looking (the picture on the first post is the Lockheed Martin version, the one to be manufactured. The Boeing version, XF-32, which lost the contest for the JSF contract, is far more strange). From the outside, in fact, it is very similar to the Raptor. It is actually more of a strike fighter-bomber than a close support aircraft. The difference, the JSF has an ability no other plane currently have-it can hover like a helicopter (it can stop at any place on the air, as if it has anti-gravity devices), and it can still reach supersonic speeds, making it the most maneuverable fighter around.

If you're thinking about the Harrier, no. Several tests have been made to make the Harrier hover like the JSF does, but all failed after 10 seconds.

(I remember saying the same thing in CNC Zone two years ago)

Wow, you guys have posted a raft of misinformation! I guess looking up simple facts is too hard, eh?

1) The JSF has been intended to replace a suite of planes, not just the venerable A-10.
USAF = The F-35 will replace the A-10 and the F-16
USN = The F-35 will complement the F/A-18E/F, being a stealthier and more survivable plane, as well as having twice the internal fuel load.
USMC = The F-35 will replace the AV-8B and F/A-18A/C/D. This is the VTOL variant of the JSF.

UK = The F-35 used by the UK will be the almost the same as the USMC variant, and will replace the ageing Harrier.

2) Its designation is "F" (for Fighter), and the "X" or "Y" is only added when they are still experimental (it is usually "X" unless there are two planes being trialed together, in which case the second gets "Y"). Therefore, it should be referred to as the F-35 or by its role designation, JSF.

3) There is already an F-35 JSF voxel made here that you can download and use.

4) The AH-64 Apache is NOT being replaced any time soon, and the RAH-66 Comanche was in fact canned in February last year. That's right, the Comanche never entered/will never enter production. Also, the Comanche was originally never intended to replace the Apache - they had different roles as implied by their designation (AH = Attack Helicopter, RAH = Recon Attack Helicopter). The Comanche was supposed in fact to replace the AH-1 and OH-58. All this crap about the Comanche supposedly replacing the Apache is all wrong and shows how little ppl actually look into information that is publicly available.

5) Many planes are as old (or older) than the A-10, and are still in service. The B-52, Harrier, C-130, F-15 and several others are all older than the A-10, and still continue to fly. Granted, as with the A-10, they have all received modernisation packages over the years, and two of the planes on the list are also due to be replaced (the Harrier and the F-15). Still, unless "enemy" nations develop competing planes, or the existing US planes get shot down, there is no real need to keep replacing planes all that often. 20-30 years (with upgrading) is seen as okay. Hell, even the US ground units are getting old!

Well, I'm not mistaken in any word I said. About the #5, I know there are planes older than the THunderbolt, but the A-10 is a strike fighter, and fighters have a generally shorter service life than bombers.

The F-15 Eagles have long been driven into their desert graveyards by Raptors.

And modernization is important for fighters-to create a new plane from scratch, it usually takes twenty years, which is the case of the Raptor and JSF.
