Hello, ladies and gentlemen! Today we are proud to start our first initiative of many: the OS .BIG Month! It's not that this month will be big. It won't. After all, April is only 30 days long. Our idea is to boost the development of Open Source .BIG Editor this month.

For those who are not aware, Open Source .BIG Editor is our home made editor that allows you to manage .BIG file packages from EA (used in many games such as Command & Conquer: Generals, Battle For Middle Earth 1 and 2, Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, Red Alert 3, among a few others, and the .MEG file packages from Petroglyph Studios, used on practically all their games and partnerships, including the famous Command & Conquer Remastered Collection.

Anyway, the idea is to boost the development by following the roadmap below:

Quote:
Open Source  .BIG Editor Expected Roadmap:

  • 0.59: Support for opening packages inside packages.
  • 0.60: Support for Load and Saving File Plugins (we expect to use command line tools to support other file types, such as .MIX, .RAR, etc.
  • 0.65: File search and file filters.
  • 0.68: "Share with" button.
  • 0.70: Plugin Manager
  • 0.80: Support for plugins to use external tools for image visualization
  • 0.90: Support for plugins to use external tools for other kinds of file visualization

We give no guarantees that all these plans will be finished by the end of the month. Probably, most of it will end up being just plans.

But as a sign of good faith, we have published the 0.587 version, known as the "Open Source ZIP Editor" edition:

Quote:
01/04/2024: 0.587
- It saves .ZIP files.
- Zip Files text on Open and Save dialogs has been fixed.

30/03/2024: 0.586
- Supports Loading .ZIP files. It should help with C&C Remastered Collection MEG files in the future.
- It should load the first file already when a package is opened.

28/03/2024: 0.585
- Supports 64-bit versions and new Delphi compilers.
