Short question:
Where can I disable the auto-save function in World-Altering Editor?

I neither found something in settings nor in INI files.

Why do you want to disable it? FYI it doesn't overwrite your map file, instead the autosave is written to another file, autosave.map in WAE's directory.

I'm sorry, but I think I'm a bit affected by other editor's behaviour. There, some weird behaviour occured which were hard to iron out so it's easier to me to just reload my unchanged map. With autosave, it's not possible. In that case I'd need to create a file copy first and edit it then. I think it's due to the complexity & sometimes some bugs I suppose to encounter.

If the "autosave" is made to another file then I have not a problem with it. But I recommend to add the full path & filename to the autosave message or inform in another way that the original file is not touched. If a manual save overwrites the loaded file then one would think that autosave does the same but just in intervalls, eg. your eMail client would autosave your drafts directly and not in another copy.
